RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.
-SoulRiser

I already take stairs instead cux escalators are scary ever since I saw this one movie where this girl was choked on an escalator. But stairs having pianos on them would awesomess.
I hate escalators with steps. One of my first experiences with them was watching an old lady have her leg bloodied up by one of them because she got caught in between them. There was a lot of blood. *shudders*. Isn't it simpler and less expensive to have a flat surface escalator?

I think the idea is that you would fall off of it because it's slanty?

Okay, this is your typical mall type escalator angle (maybe a bit less, but not much):
Imagine trying to stand on that. This is why there are steps.

Dammit, I forgot, I was going to say something like "It's the same angle as an elevator, just no 400 miles long." But I forgot.

Re: The Fun Theory
I'm not going to as why, but generally, letting go of the rail would sent you on a plummet to your death (Especially at 400 miles), and if you're worried about the dangers of the stairs, a slope would be worse.

Re: The Fun Theory
If you were at that angle, it wouldn't matter if it was steps or slope, you'd still fall to your death if you let go of the rail.

Re: The Fun Theory
No, because you're standing on a flat surface. If it was going fast, that would be one thing, but considering it's speed, unless you jumped around like a monkey, you wouldn't fall. I never touch the rails on escalators.

There's not enough room on those tiny steps anyway.
Seriously though, sloped escalators aren't that bad.

Sloped. As I've said before, I'm terrified of the ones with steps.
EDIT: Also, you can use the rail, and you can lie down. Humans have been defying gravity for a while now.

Wait, are we really having a discussion of which is the better escalator?
By the way, I stand by my case. A sloped escalator is a deathtrap.

2 feet? If those steps aren't big enough than you either really suck at standing or have abnormally large feet.

Eh, people shit on Newton's grave every day. An apple fell on his head? Yeah, sure. First mention of that was a way of explaining the concept of gravity, years after he died. He put some damned hard work into that theory.

Re: The Fun Theory
Do you know why that is? Because people would fall and break their necks.
To make a sloped escalator possible, it would have to be extra EXTRA long, so we wouldn't plummet to our deaths. It's an engineering fallacy. We can't go upward at a slope like that, our feet wouldn't be flat on the ground, and gravity would pull on our upper halves more than our lower halves. Do you know what happens when there's an unequal distribution of gravitational pull? People fall, and because we aren't cats, we're not gonna land on out feet. More than likely we'll fall flat on out asses (at best) at worst, on our spinal chords.
