RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

a bad dream

Since I was little I've had really really bad dreams - Like, dreams that rendered me afraid of sleeping, every night. very very vivid. Recently (in the last 3 years) they went away, but I've started having them again.

I wanted to share this with you guys, because I feel like I need closure. I literally woke up and shook and cried for half an hour from this dream. this is unusual for me - someone used to vivid nightmares.

Here goes...

Okay, so here's some quick background - my old house was creepy, and my family's convinced it was haunted. My old friend Nat lives near there.

So I'm walking along the street with Nat, and I see my house, and I realise nobody's going near it, so I go to talk to the neighbours - that live next door. I go in, and as soon as I mention the house they go white - and say that everyone knows about the ghost girl that's living there, and nobody's meant to talk about it. Just then, we hear someone walking around upstairs that shouldn't be there, but see nothing. so me and Nat go to her house and go to bed, and I have a dream-flashback to a girl bathing herself in acid - this is seen vividly and realistically, I don't think I need details - and then I flash back to being in bed with Nat (not in that way) and this deformed dead girl climbs into bed with us, and Nat looks dead too. then I realise that this girl is my cousin, who my whole family's worried about at the moment because she's having some financial trouble and problems with her mental health - this girl that I virtually grew up with as a sister, because her mother died when she was young. It was pretty horrific. I think after this I took a motorbike to an empty field to camp, but she followed me... At this point, I woke up. Shaking crying etc

thought I should share it.

I don't know much about it, but from what I've heard I'm guessing it's because you were worried about your cousin. Things from your self-conscious seem to try to work themselves out in dreams a lot.

This. Also my guess.

Re: a bad dream

I am worried about her - terribly - so you're probably right. I think I'll call her on Saturday, see if she wants to do something. She's a shadow of her former self though, silly lass...

It just disturbed me a lot, because I have a lot of issues with that house, and I have issues with burned/deformed skin - anything that looks rotten or holey, I even get freaked out by sponges weirdly

thanks cc

EDIT: Something that may be significant is that this was my cousin as a child of about 12.

Hmm, you seem to have a problem with irregular holed shapes just like me. I agree it's fucking creepy, and I start to get a clearer picture of your dream. As clear as to make me nearly quietly sob in a corner stabbing my eyes out. I don't know how can you live having dreams like this.

Problem, officer?

Re: a bad dream

I got used to it when I was younger. I had a biiiig phobia of dead bodies - I used to dream about dead bodies being posted through my letterbox, stuck in mazes with dead bodies, by the end of the seven-year phase my mind got pretty damned creative. They went away when I moved house almost completely. I've always felt safer in my attic for some reason... but up until I was seven, I don't think I spent a single night completely alone.

So yeah, forgive the pun but it was a bloody rude awakening from my dreamless nights of late.

All because you were near the place recently?

Correct.

Anyway's If you're having any Insomnia, I suggest taking naps midday, near sunlit rooms, It'll seem less scary than at night.

Hidden stuff:
TRIGGER WARNING: THIS TRIGGER WARNING CONTAINS TRIGGER WARNINGS!

Dear Tumblrites: Despite your wrongly self-diagnosed PTSD, no line of scientific evidence suggests people can be triggered over the internet. Triggering works through the senses (i.e. smell, taste, touch, vision, hearing.) but it goes through real time; if you're not experiencing it in real life as it's ACTUALLY HAPPENING in your ACTUAL life, you CANNOT be triggered. The only exception to this is if you have a seizure, but then again, that's triggered by epilepsy (i.e. rapidly-changing flashing lights) NOT PTSD. Remembering a bad incident is NOT the same thing as having a flashback. When you remember, you think; when you flashback, you feel.

Re: a bad dream

Thanks TA

I don't have insomnia, exactly, but I used to have a fear of sleeping, especially alone. Occasionally it rears it's ugly head again.

Ceiling Cat: that place holds a lot of bad memories for me - not only because of the paranormal suspicions, but because of a lot of violence happening around me. I wasn't shaken looking at the house, I was a little shaken thinking about the interior.
