August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

Is it really that bad? Dunno, I've never died before (unless I was reincarnated, which I don't know) But people are sad about it because death is basically the 'end', a 'useless nonexistence.'
Death, where you can't enjoy food, video games, or feel pleasure anymore.
But then again...you don't need to.
Because you also won't feel pain, sorrow. You won't know what its like to have a broken arm or hurt ego. And you won't eat because you don't need to eat. You can continue your nonexistence without ever having to eat again. You can't feel the pleasure of videogames BECAUSE you're also never feeling bored which you would need to play videogames to alleviate in the first place.
What I'm trying to say is; Life breeds unnecessary motives that are needed to be kept going to stay alive, and happy. But if we took those away (Die) we wouldn't need them: You don't need to take a shower if you're never dirty. Basically; Death to me is a Neutral thing. Not a Bad thing. So why do we try so hard to stay alive? Are we afraid of whats to come? Well I am not afraid. But I guess I'll just stick it out to help those others in need.

That certainly is an interesting point, I've thought about it before. I suppose your right but there is still something, possibly encoded in humans genetics that makes us want to go on. For some reason I want to do something helpful or awesome to contribute. Maybe it was just my upbringing, but either way humans in general have something that makes them want to continue on no matter what.
I suppose it is a bit illogical, but I think I'll hold on to life until it expires because if the afterlife is nothingness, and life is all I get, I don't really want to waste it.

Yeah, you're right; If I had a coupon for something, I'd want to use it. Sometimes, it gives me comfort to know that all things: Friends, Enemies, all end up the same.

Well, I don't know what happens after death. Maybe it's nothing. Maybe it's Hell. Maybe there's 72 virgins but they're all clingy, high-maintenance bitches who keep nagging you about cleaning out the Heavenly Garage. Since I know I'll find out eventually, what's the use in rushing? I'll just try to live as long and as I can an make as much of an impact on the world as possible until my time comes. That seems to be the most logical option.
I think Buenaventura Durruti is a pretty cool guy. eh kills fascists and doesnt afraid of ruins. The quickest way to kill a revolution is to wait for it.

Rebelnerd wins again.
But yeah. We can logically conclude. We can never really be sure.
Fear of the unknown.
I hate the idea of death, as a living person, because I like to know what's going on. I'm a control freak. I want to know what happens next (even if it's an absolute train wreck).
Will to live; occurs naturally in all humans. Possible to grow/be forced out of. Formed in days of instinct. Makes humans get food, shelter and water. When humans transgressed to sentience, and were still left with this basic instinct or 'will' we had to find a reason for it. Seeing as we didn't have the scientific knowledge of today, we came up with 'lol, dying is bad, durr'. Society jumped on this because it seemed like a good idea at the time, and we still haven't grown out of the instinct, so the general populace remains uninformed.
The pressures for the instinct are still there and will always be for the rest of time, because no matter what kind of creature you are or what technology you have, as a currently live being you are alive because you are fit to be, and this means that either you have the "will" to live or something/someone has the will to keep you alive(eg general society).
Both natural selection and evolution are and always will be there.
Ceiling Cat Wrote:What about those who want to die?
These people may have logical and rational reasons, or completely illogical and irrational reasons. With the illogical and irrational people, you'll notice that they will off themselves more commonly than those with logical and rational reasons. Reason? Illogical and rational people tend to get over the instinct quickly, because they're being overly emotional, and they can override the function pretty damn easily. Logical and rational people not so much. They understand that it's one of the big three instincts that you shouldn't fuck with. Being sentient, of course, if they get over it at all, they do it quickly and efficiently.
Life is a giant video game. When you die, you go back to the "real world" and chill with your buddies and talk about all the crazy shit you did in the game. Then later on when you get bored or want to play some more, you respawn again as another human and start the game of life all over again.

I get freaked out all the time, because I have this irrational fear of us being somehow aware even after death. Do you have a clue how creepy that would be? To be staring at the blackness in your casket until you rot? This is why I want to be cremated.

The only three fears I have about dying is that either 1: I'll end up dying in one of the most undignified ways possible, 2: I'll die from bleeding out or some other agonizingly slow and painful way, or 3: dying without achieving something really goddamn important that I wanted to do for a good part of my life.

Same with me. Except I'm afraid I'll just be forced to stare into a giant null void of blackness for all of eternity, no matter what happens to my body.

That to. Personally, I'd rather just go poof. I'd rather go to hell.
And it's not like the dead could tell you, considering that, they're... well... dead.
