RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Tips for incoming freshman

Yeah, I'm gonna be a freshman this fall. Does anyone have anything they'd like to say?

Abut me: I am 15 and I play ice hockey. I am sort of a stoner, but I'm responsible with it. I have enough friends for my taste. I'm friends with a few of the people in the "jock" crowd (including my best friend) and friends with a lot of the "misfit" crowd.

Calra Franklin is possibly a whore. She does need to fuck off, though. I don't sue Facebook when someone insults me on Facebook.

You are free to do as you are told.

"You are free to say what you want, as long as it doesn't offend anyone." Me

Dear Society,
Don't like gay marriage? Don't get one. Don't like abortions? Don't get one. Don't like drugs? Don't do them. Don't like sex? Don't have it. Don't like your rights taken away? Don't take away anyone else's.
Sincerely, be glad we're all different.

If anyone wants to be my penpal or something like that or just wants to talk hit me up.

Re: Tips for incoming freshman

Try and have friends in all groups. Be that cool kid everyone gets along with. I know that isn't exactly easy but it is very useful. Realize that you only have four years until you finally can get some useful education out of college. Don't fret too much over grades because you can just go to county for two years and then transfer to almost any college you want.

Drink vodka in school, and come to school half asleep. You will be able to take notes.

If you are smart, cram the night before.

Don't talk to anyone, unless they are cool.
Don't try to fit in.

Just go, observe, and get a taste of highschool.

To be an anarchist, is to suffer greatly. To be a black woman is to suffer secretly. To be the earth, is to suffer silently.

I wish no harm on anyone, but those whose harmful ways will not stop without the same harm.

It's time we kill this cancerous system, before it kills us and everything left of gaia. Rise from our immaturity and take back our autonomy!

No college, if you plan to go, gives a fuck if you get a C in French or whatever, so do the bare minimum of work, i.e. enough to get by but don't stress yourself out trying to get straight A's.

Go to work. Send your kids to school. Follow fashion. Act normal. Walk on the pavement. Watch TV. Save for your old age. Obey the law. Repeat after me: "I am free."

It's strange to say but be as strong as you can physically. Most people's opinion of you are still affected by your physical abilities, no matter what we say. If you're weak you will get treated like it.

Also, only talk when you really have something to say and mean it. This kind of thing has earned me a lot of respect in the past.

Like some people said don't stress your ass off to get perfect notes, don't be an asshole to anyone unless they are to you, in that case don't let them step on you, go blitzkrieg on those people : D

I'm so sick of all these people but I'm scared to be alone...

Just be yourself, honestly. Your personality comes out no matter what you try to do, so don't fight it. Hang out with people you like, no matter who they are.

It's best to avoid making enemies, I was the guy that was neutral with everyone, no one ever really hated me and I just kept to myself a lot of the time and had a small group of good friends.

Good advice Razz. I have been hitting the gym, and I'm gonna get a lot more serious once school starts (more consistent routine). So I can do that.

And that's actually good advice, don't talk unless I have something to say...I'll have to do that.

That's what I'm good at....I'm chill.

Though apparently I'm a poser as a stoner, so someone hates me for it. Eh, she's not gonna be at the high school this year.

Hypocrites. Smoking weed just to fit in. I don't smoke because... I don't want to and it costs too much and I don't want to be stupid. Being smart is a decent blessing

I don't encourage people to "try to be cool".

I do whatever the fuck I want, they fuck with me, and I shove a knife up their ass.

I don't need people

Re: Tips for incoming freshman

As you progress through High School, it's gonna get REALLY fucking over-done. Like you'll actually start seeing the same shit everyday by like Junior Year. Like your RE-LIVING the same day over, and over again. Everyone will feel like a Windup Doll.

But just be chill. Don't mess with people for no reason. Become friends with everybody. Not just the Jocks and people who put others down to make themselves look better. TRUST ME. Be cool with everyone, because I've seen what an "Un-Popular" kid who got messed with can do with 1 Summer.(if you know what i mean....)

True. I too, spend so much time kickboxing and lifting that i could never do school sports. And as you said most people who get into those sports are competitive assholes.

I'm so sick of all these people but I'm scared to be alone...

@crazymonkey: You got SHOT DOWN.

@Super Max61: This sounds over-said and somewhat superficial, but just be yourself. I agree wholeheartedly with what Weswammy wrote concerning this. Trying to change who you are to 'make things easier on yourself' in the eyes of others is not the right way to go.

In my experiences H.S. was a piece of cake compared to middle school, after dealing with the majority of asshole middle schoolers everyone in highschool seemed nice as hell.
