RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

How to bend the dress code?

Sorry, I don't know if this is the right place for the topic. I just don't. lol
Anyway, my question is: I wanted to buy a shirt that has a big weed leaf on it and says "Legalize" underneath that. And I wanted to wear it to school. Obviously this is "inappropriate" but I wanted to know if there was some kind of first amendment protecting law that justified my actions.
In other words, is there some law that protects me wearing the shirt, when it is against the school's dress code? Is there any way for me to get away with wearing it?

Laws never seem to help people fight School. Laws only matter if the students are braking them...

Re: How to bend the dress code?

I dunno, there was once a school that got butthurt over people wearing a R.I.P shirt for a friend of theirs that died because it was "inappropriate".

You might be able to try the freedom of expression route, but when I tried it, I got openly laughed at (not just a random *gigglesnort* either, a full blown AHAHAHA OH WOW!)... I said "This is unconstitutional!" They were like "The supreme court said we could blah blah." "I didn't say the Supreme court. I said the constitution. Lrn2listen." And this is when the epic lulz erupted.

The bitch went to write me up, and I left without accepting it. Which got me in even bigger shit, but whatever.

Yea, I'd go for a different angle if I were you.

You know, it's funny that they mentioned the supreme court. I'm pretty sure the supreme court also said...
U.S. Supreme Court Justice Abe Fortas, Tinker v. Des Moines (1969) Wrote:In our system, state-operated schools may not be enclaves of totalitarianism. School officials do not possess absolute authority over their students. Students in school as well as out of school are "persons" under our Constitution."

Basically, this means that schools cannot take away our constitutional rights unless it interferes with the learning of other students... which my shirt will not, until the asshole authorities make a scene out of it. We'll see how it goes. I'm probably going to do it just cuz. lol

What's wrong with that shirt? I don't see anything against it.

Nah, because they use the "you can't order them around unless it interferes with learning" thing. They use this excuse for EVERYTHING.

Re: How to bend the dress code?

Yes, but who's to judge whether or not it interferes with learning? It's their word against mine. And ultimately, since they can't control me, I'll probably just walk out side and sit on the bench if they try to make me change my shirt.

And I can pass a drug test. I quit a few months ago. I'm thinking about starting again though.

Just wear it. Ask how it's innapropriate. You are stating a political opinion. You believe people should be educated in politics and the various beliefs. Ohyeah, just be glad you get to have a dress code instead of a uniform.

And I went to a private school for a few years. I'm extremely thankful I don't have uniforms any longer.

About 3 1/2 hours ago I was groping an 11 year old's ass. I view CP. I support homicide. For most people, I'm a shit hero.

EDIT: Shit CC, thanks. Bit of an embarassing typo I guess. Too much Equals Three.

Luz, being labeled 'better than Zherneboh' is probably one of the worst insults you could make towards a person who is/thinks like a normal person.
