RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

No school on fridays?

So there is a Facebook group called "No school days on Friday! Need 5,000,000 school students to make official". It sounds pretty legit. So if your a student then go over and join it. This might not work but there is a huge pushing force behind it. http://www.facebook.com/pages/No-school ... 0279455650 click the link and get over there, the Teller of Truths commands you!

No. Then they'll just add more hours to the school day and shorten breaks.

Re: No school on fridays?

i joined that and said something like no school ever.

Like anyone's going to change anything just because 5000000 children said to. Even most children don't respect children.

I think a change for the better would be...

I was in ISS a lot in school and I liked it better than being in the regular classroom, because they bring you your stupid assignments and you do them all in like 15 minutes and then you get to spend the rest of the day daydreaming or reading or drawing. So make all of school like that except add that you can walk around, go outside, to the playground, or the gym or whatever, when you're done with your 15 minutes of busy work. It would still be immoral to force kids to go there and do even 15 minutes of nonsense, but it would be significantly better.

Haha you're joking right? Joining this group isn't going to change a thing. Do you really think they're going to change the days that the public schools are open just because some kids join a group on facebook? Hell no they aren't.

Re: No school on fridays?

Joining a group could be a good thing if you know how to make use of it to further your own goals somehow.

If nothing else, the group is a recruiting ground...

Re: No school on fridays?

It's common knowledge (well, it should be) that facebook groups do absolutely nothing. They are just a means of getting people with similar views together to vent and express opinions, but the group itself isn't going to change anything unless someone running the group promises to send a petition to some sort of governing legislature to initiate the change. Has this group stated that it would use its members as a means of forming an official petition?

This is why I avoid clogging my fb profile with causes and pointless groups, because in reality, most peoples' commitment ends at "Send Invitations."

But then there might be enough momentum from killing Friday to keep going to kill Thursday next, then Wednesday... Fu

I've gotta agree with you though

Re: No school on fridays?

The college where my mom works is slowly killing friday classes. There are barely any in her department. All except for like 2 of the classes are either MW or TTH. My mom chose to offer a MWF class once and only like 6 people signed up for it, but when she offered the same class as MW, like 30 people signed up.

Anyway, my point is that in that department, most people consider thursday to be the last day of the school week, professors and students alike. The result is that people LEAVE EARLY ON THURSDAY. lolololol. Thursday after 12:00, half the people are gone. Professors who have classes thursday afternoon do them all half-assedly. Students who have classes thursday afternoon skip them half the time.

lol.
