RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Based off 3 users? I mean you're right, but 3 users isn't a terribly representative portion of the forum, I think.

Most young people are further to the left at this point. Personally, I think both sides can be successful if done correctly.

Aren't most American kiddies lefties?

I think it has to do with how we hippytize unions, how wonderful communism and socialism sounds in school, and how Western countries like to call anything "undemocratic" uber-evul and not worthy of existence on a map.

Unless you go to Catholic School(cause then all non-Roman Catholics are evul). Or your parents are hardcore right and you don't have family issues.

I was meaning most of the kiddies here.

But most American kids are apolitical. They don't care.

Orly?

A lot of people I've met, though appearing to be apolitical, have been far more fond of leftist ideals when engaged in topics of political nature.

They may not care, but they'll still pick a side. Or at least have some perception about the sides.

Whichever side they pick is the one that they think sounds nice. Some young people that are more religious will pick more conservative ideas when prompted.

"Fuck dem fagits they don't need to git married."

But, they are generally uninformed and rarely vote. Can't say as I blame them, with rational ignorance and all.

I wouldn't say most of them. Political activity among millenials is higher than previous generations IIRC.

You accidentally said "kids" when you meant "adults", right? This generation hosts the highest number (and ratio) of politically active teens the world has yet seen. And from my observation, the (especially older) adults are the apathetic ones these days.

Anyway, here's my most recent results:

Fun fact: The right wing center on the political compass denotes neo-liberalism (the US Libertarian Party), while the libertarian center on the political compass denotes pure libertarianism. And I'm right between them. Hooray for Libertarianism and economic freedom!

You all hippies.

The last time I took the test(a while ago), I was about 1 toward left, and 6 towards authoritarian.

Political compass, beautiful, beautiful, political compass!

I shall implement my 5-year plan over the course of 5 milleniums.

I shall convert all of Russia into a Gulag.

Africa will be completely evacuated and covered completely with solar panels.

Asia will serve as a industrial powerhouse, contributing to global pollution.

Europe will be the clean, green utopia fortress reserved for only the top-class of society, including great businessmen, scientists and etc.(though they shall be in fact held in an unofficial prison as they can never leave Europe without permission)

South America will be evacuated, and completely covered in greenery. It will be my little garden paradise.

North America will be used as the secondary living zone, mainly those of middle and lower class status. Most Southern and Western areas will host the lower classes, while Northern and Eastern zones will be for higher classes.

Eurasia/Middle East, while not being completely legitimate geographic regions, shall be a heavily guarded zone as long as the oil flows. All of Middle East(Arabian Peninsula and much of Persia) will be renamed "Dune".

Turkey, being my native country, shall become a special isolated region with various benefits, as a sort of historical museum of what was once an institution of the past era of governance.

Australia will become a wasteland, in the literal sense. It will serve as a global landfill/recycling center. The nicer areas will of course be especially maintained.

With the help of robots, population control will be as simple as sending massive numbers of humans to work as laborers on my moon base.

It's common for people of this day to distrust businesses, become frustrated with the market, and assume regulations are an overwhelmingly good thing, and the average political compass results show that. It's less common to seek the big picture even in the midst of that.

Quote:I work in business, love market data and think regulations are as amusing as putting my testicles in a hydraulic press.

Wut?

He's referring to social democrats, however I don't think it makes much sense to say that preferring petty "reform" or "regulation" necessitates the accusation of having "distrust" in the market, in fact, it's way more of an attempt to continue to maintain the bourgeois ownership of the means of production and therefore the continued existence of dependency on the market, and we've learned of people with those exact motives (*cough* German social democrats in the late 1910s/1920s *cough*), so I'd say they have a pretty huge faith in the market and its survival with their suppressions of proletarian revolutions through these weak reforms and direct crushings.

He states, "I'm getting the distinct impression that I'm the only one here who does care about economics." because he believes the leaning-leftism and reformism (not even of the Eduard Bernstein-ist tendency, more as in the Keynesian-like response to the failures of relatively unfettered capitalism) of users here is an infantile, utopian, and ultimately an economically illiterate and apathetic response to our current material conditions.

To DoA (and the rest of you people, if you share any interest in economics), here are just several people that are apparently not interested in economics because they are not REALISTIC-THINKING DISCIPLES OF RAND:
Karl Marx, Friedrich Engels, Peter Kropotkin, Rosa Luxemburg, Vladimir Lenin, Paul Sweezy, Paul A. Baran, Henryk Grossman, Ernest Mandel, Paul Mattick, Andrew Kliman, Nobuo Okishio
