RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

TBH, I dont think this test is very consistent. I am a anarcho-capitalsit, sure. But I don't consider myself a right-winger. The last time I took this test a few months ago, I got centrist and all the way down anarchist and I haven't changed much since then. Some of the questions are a bit confusing too.

I don't think it's accurate, all that much. I have extremely libertarian views. I just think we should trust bust a lot more than we do... (And maybe regulate banking to an extent. Maybe.)

I think that's what I think anyway.

Sames..

I don't see myself as much of a libertarian.
I'm more for a neutral society if anything else.

The libertarian/authoritarian scale is the social scale. Thus, if you are closer to the bottom you believe in more social liberties (anti-abortion, pro-drug legalization, that kind of thing).

The right/left scale is economic right/left. Thus, a communist will be more to left and a capitalist will be on the right.

No test is perfect.

And about monopolies: They can exist for a time as free market entities, but even anomalies like the De Beers diamond cartel aren't going to last forever, as the De Beers cartel is being slowly eroded at. So yes, we have anti-trust legislation for a reason. To bust them up just in case.

But one must realize that if we were given a truly free market economy, there would be little chance of a monopoly. Even if a company controlled, say, all the copper mines in a country if there is free trade with other countries then the other countries can export copper to the country with the monopoly, thus driving down the price of copper. In fact, monopolies would probably buckle due to competition because of their inefficiencies.

Generally, monopolies thrive only with government interference. Either tariffs that make it unprofitable to buy foreign goods or government licenses that make them a legal monopoly, like the British East India Company.

How do we get back on topic? /staying on topic

Sure, but what about the standard of living we hold so dear? If we were competing with third world countries, and China, and India and other countries that have workforces which work for fractions of what we usually work for, what would keep us from lowering our standards to shit?

When there has been free trade, the standard of living goes up. Historically speaking. But that's a good question, and I'm going to think of a plausible answer.

I'm going to guess that India and China would specialize. They have cheap, unskilled labor that will do cheap, unskilled work. We have a more mechanized, more educated work force and more money to begin with. Plus, as they make money they get wealthier too.

There isn't a fixed pie, economic freedom creates wealth.

Damn, I think I have a video for everything.

A free market will create some sort of specialization, but there are no "losers" in the sense we commonly associate with the term.

Re: Political compass, beautiful, beautiful, political compass!

I'm actually warming to the idea of capitalism, it seems rational and fair in given circumstances and is based on perhaps the oldest idea of barter and trade. I didn't have much problems with it before, I believe it's the best kind of system in our current society that we have got going for us, but I never really looked into it that much before.

Re: Political compass, beautiful, beautiful, political compass!

It's always seemed to me to be the way to go. I mean, I've changed my ideas some, don't get me wrong. The free market cannot provide everything, nor should it. But, as a basis for a society, capitalism seems to have furthered human progress the most.

There's also this one which asks your opinions on more relevent issues. And you can provide weight to the ones that you really care about or the ones you don't really care about. So I think it might be a bit more accurate. And you don't have to answer all the questions, so your results won't be skewed by "wtf i don't evne know that" questions. But it also has a "learn more" button that will quickly summarize the issue in the question.
http://www.isidewith.com/political-quiz

My results on that one is
I side with
Green party on 89% of the issues
Democrat Party on 88%
Libertarian on 66%
Socialist on 63%
Republicans on 21% (last time I took the test it was like 9%)

And if you look at the bottom right of that part there will be a little button that says map these.
here are my results(warning: the libertarian/authoritarian is swapped on this one, don't misread it!)
I'd put an image but taking screenshots is kind of a pain since my hard drive killed itself.

last time I took that one I was about the same on the left/right scale, but I appear to be getting more libertarian as time progresses.

I'm a girl ffffeck
