RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

Hello, SS! Jordbaer reporting for duty!
Hello. I'm Jordbaer, which is Norwegian for "strawberry." I'm fifteen years old and am about to finish up my freshman year of high school at a very corrupt private school whose main concern is money. Wow, I never thought I'd introduce myself that way! I also have a habit of rambling and making really, really long posts. Just thought I'd warn you guys!
As far as school goes, I make exceptional grades except for math. (I've never had a good math teacher, and it's not really a subject I can naturally grasp.) I've never really had a lot of friends at school because my classmates find me a bit too quirky for their tastes. I don't have as much money as most of the other kids, either. If I made a list of everyone I met at school that I liked, well, that would be one hell of a short list. Most of the people I really click with end up leaving my school or are older than me and have graduated.
If I told you everything I hated about my school, I'd be typing for days. Image and money are all my school focuses on. They require things that don't make sense to me. I hate how good the whole damn school thinks they are. I hate how my classmates look down on me for being a little bit "out there." I hate how my geometry teacher looks at me like I'm the stupidest person to ever walk the planet all because I am struggling to maintain an 80 average in the class she herself admitted I'd never use. (She has actually been my main problem this year. She thinks I'm stupid, and she is horrible at teaching and at dealing with people. She loudly said in front of the class one day, "Jordbaer, are you even getting this chapter at all? I know that geometry is so NOT your subject!" She also called my sort-of-friend obnoxious right to her face, and I heard that she told her to get out of the class "just because." And the teacher is allowed to get away with treating her students like this because she has been teaching for 20 years!)
That's only the tip of the iceberg. I've grown to despise the very concept of school. It took me until this year to fully realize how much I hate it all. I'm miserable. I cry 3 or 4 nights a week because I just can't wait to get away from it all.
It's not just the people there. It's also the blatant disregard for what the individual student wants, and the fact that I just can't stop asking why. I know I don't want a job in any scientific field, so why am I required to learn chemistry and biology? I want to be a journalist, so geometry doesn't mean much to me. I don't see why I must be graded on all this, ah... extraneous information. I also don't like the whole concept of "sit down and shut up for 7 hours." I think school in general is very poorly planned out.
Anyway, enough about my situation. I guess I should tell a little about myself. I am practically married to my laptop. I like art, and I'm also attempting to learn to play the guitar. Umm, that's about it. :3

AHOY matey, leave your sanity by the door and enjoy your stay, I believe you'll fit right in.
Sorry to hear your school is such an absolute shithole ruled by vain money grubbers, but at least here you'll always have someone to talk to about it.

Welcome to School Survival. If you could tell us your straitjacket size sooner rather than later, that'd be great.

Because I put 'probably' in there, implying that there was some small chance of him staying.

It depends... Does the cookie in question have sprinkles? If so, then YES!

Not a loli, don't get your hopes up.
Also, I think I'm the only one who can spell your name correctly here.
Problem, officer?

Re: Hello, SS! Jordbaer reporting for duty!
Jordbaer, it's pretty easy to spell. Also, in response to the strawberry thing:

Your argument is now invalid.

Oh you meant this dude.
Also, you're probably not spelling "yordbaer" which is the correct way.
Problem, officer?

The way her name shows up on the screen is the correct way to spell her name.

You misunderstand. If I spell my name wrong in the Username field, that is my username. Regardless of whether it was intentional or not.

Re: Hello, SS! Jordbaer reporting for duty!
OH. No, I was saying it with a 'y'. I'm naturally good with languages, and 'Jordbaer' didn't sound as correct as 'Yordbaer'. Pronunciation =/= spelling.
