RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Is It A Problem If.....

- I sometimes wake up feeling really groggy and tired, look at the clock and see I'm almost late. Then just go back to sleep?

I don't know, its as if my body wouldn't move, even if I wanted to get up for school. I guess because I naturally don't like the Atmosphere of school, that my body tries to resist me going there. Confused

- If I start to dislike my family because everytime they talk to me it's to tell me to do some kind of work. No "Hello". No "How are you doing?". Just "Yo, wash the dishes." or "Clean the Kitchen."

- If I get pissed off when my mom checks my Facebook to find out what I like and to check if I'm saying anything she doesn't approve of Rolleyes

I mean, I'm her son, why would she need to spy on me? Where's the trust. Besides she should know this stuff anyway. That just goes to show how far apart me and her are.....

- If I get EXTREMELY pissed off that my Mom had me friend her Boy-friend, and WON'T let me delete him from my friends on Facebook??

That's how she spies on and gets my information anyway, because she goes on his account and goes on to my page. I'm seriously going to delete and block him. PS:: when she doesn't approve of a post I make about how I don't like my family, she comes in my face and yells at me for it....

- If I close my Facebook account?

- I keep making these retarded post about my mom. lol.

I'll stop after this one....

Nope, not a problem with you at all. My mum wants me to add her on Facebook. I refuse. No matter what, I will never allow her or my dad to add me. They use to yell at me all the time and now they just gave up. Smile

Re: Is It A Problem If.....

The thing that sucks the most about living with your parents is that not many intelligent minds can truly can be themselves .

We're all lucky to have a house and family that will let us live there, but honestly, I doubt I'd be living with them if it wasn't for the law.

:( Things will get better hopefully. Now , or when you're eighteen. Just keep holding until you can't, or until you realize how completely stupid it is to keep holding on.

To be an anarchist, is to suffer greatly. To be a black woman is to suffer secretly. To be the earth, is to suffer silently.

I wish no harm on anyone, but those whose harmful ways will not stop without the same harm.

It's time we kill this cancerous system, before it kills us and everything left of gaia. Rise from our immaturity and take back our autonomy!

I friended my mom, aunts, and uncles on facebook... luckily for me my family is pretty open with everyone... I'd just not give a fuck what she thinks if I was you and let her get pissed... or just remove her and her boyfriend from your friends lists.

Re: Is It A Problem If.....

Yeah, your body hates school. Science has shown many times that the normal school schedule is absolutely detrimental to the age groups forced to follow it. Give this to your first teacher of the day:

Chronic sleep deprivation can cause all sorts of brain damage. Why not sleep during your first class? Tell the teacher you mean no disrespect, but you are burning out due to a lack of sleep. When you communicate with the teachers and administrators, they will see that you are human and they will respect you more. Maybe try to push for a later start time. There's all sorts of medical journals you can cite.

We live in a difficult time. Parents are stressed and the media makes them paranoid about all the wrong things. You might have trouble understanding why your parents behave the way they do. Sometimes it's hard to imagine being so trapped as to forget how to love, but it's entirely possible and even likely these days.

IMO, it is a problem. It might actually be best to help out your parents and accept their commands without much hesitation. I know there are limits to patience, but try to imagine that your parents' behavior has a cause. Try to imagine--that cause is the same reason you have to go to school and it might actually be the same reason you have a facebook.

The truth is that the human species is mostly enslaved by an elite few. I'm not suggesting a traditional conspiracy with a bunch of old men sitting around a table--such things aren't necessary. There are a few incredibly rich people out there and they have a common interest, whether they know it or not, in you and your family's misery.

To give your parents unnecessary trouble would be to perpetuate the anger and pain which comes all the way from the top. Your parents are directing that pain onto you, and it's the same discomfort felt by your parents' boss's, boss's...boss's... bank's manager who is under pressure to collect for the loans which project the illusion of prosperity all down the line. Why not be that noble person who takes that smack in the face without taking it out on those around you. The real way to fight this injustice is to help out, and if you can, organize helpful community projects to raise awareness. When people help each other, security increases and everyone can be less stressed and more thoughtful. Learning outside of school is also a good way to fight. Don't let school get in the way; instead, exploit all of its resources. Talk to teachers after school and make friends with them, use the computers, use the labs.

About facebook--it's likely a commercial continuation of DARPA's Information Awareness Office paid for by the CIA. People freaked out about the IAO and so a corporation was started to do the dirty work. This is like how the military pays private contractors to do the really nasty hack-off-a-limb interrogations in order to keep the government's hands clean. So when you get into revolutionary politics and start organizing actions disagreeable to the state, the government will have all your pictures, know who all your friends are, know where you are (or at least know who to ask), etc. Then one day your door will get kicked in at 3am and you'll wake up in a shipping container with a broken arm and a bag over your head.

The only death is ignorance.
