To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

NYRA Annual Meeting 2011!!!

Hey, everyone!

NYRA's Annual Meeting this year will take place in Washington, DC on July 30 & 31. We will provide food and housing for the weekend! Our Annual Meeting is a great big gathering of youth rights supporters to meet each other and listen to some great speakers and participate in some workshops, as well as hear the NYRA Annual Report and the results of the board election! Some youth rights activists/notables who will be present include Alex Koroknay-Palicz, Jeffrey Nadel, David Moss, Usiel Phoenix, and many others.

The exact schedule is still being assembled but here's one thing we do know...

Dr. Robert Epstein will be our keynote speaker! Yes, that Dr. Robert Epstein! Biggrin

Definitely try to come if you can! I know many of you are on other continents which makes the coming that much harder, but wherever you are, if you can come to Washington, DC on July 30, great! The more the merrier! Biggrin

My sister and I are planning to go to DC sometime soon, so if we're able to go this year, I'll try to make sure that we're there on the 30th and 31st. Even though she's anti-youth rights (yet somehow pro-gay rights, dunno how that makes sense Rolleyes ), hopefully I'll convince her, or my mom.

What I object to is that the students are deprived of any choice in the matter. As benign as the intentions may be, any system that forces people into an environment where they have no say in their lives is a situation ripe for abuse of power.

We have a definite location, which is University of Maryland, College Park campus in College Park, MD. Don't let the "Maryland" fool you after we said DC since this location is like within a few miles of the DC border and inside the beltway, so close enough. Wink

Hope you guys can come! As I said, Dr. Robert Epstein is our keynote speaker, plus there will be a big party with lots of youth rights supporters, plus other workshops from people doing cool youth rights shit. Smile
