RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

We need to copy what works, and research into what has made successful organizations and models successful. That's the way the current newspaper industry does things, with the Associated Press and all.

Other organizations might warrant us looking at them too. If you have an idea but don't know how to implement it, look at how others have implemented it.

^ I agree.

Also, I have a finished rough draft done here:

https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&pid= ... l&hl=en_US

I believe it needs at least a little more work, and at most a shit load of more work. Spelling, grammar, improvements, and additions are necessary, me thinks, but I'm not sure I'll be able to do them... I made it editable to anyone who has the link, so have at it.

Also lol at how I read 250+ pages of psyop Field Manuals in order to write our 16 page one. Also, I don't really want any credit or anything. I don't want to draw attention to myself by putting my username on it tbh...

Looks good! Needs a bit of touching up near the end. But looking great.

I'll try my hand at editing it.

EDIT: Tomorrow that is, damn it's late.

Also, for projects like the intro and this I think we should have teams of 3 or 4, instead of just having one document floating around. You could be a part of all the teams though, but that allows for expansion. Thoughts?

EDIT2: Stop swearing. Damn, hell, anything near perceivable to offensive needs to be removed. That's a great way to not get members. (sorry for being so cold)

Calra Franklin is possibly a whore. She does need to fuck off, though. I don't sue Facebook when someone insults me on Facebook.

Dear Society,
Don't like gay marriage? Don't get one. Don't like abortions? Don't get one. Don't like drugs? Don't do them. Don't like sex? Don't have it. Don't like your rights taken away? Don't take away anyone else's.
Sincerely, be glad we're all different.

If anyone wants to be my penpal or something like that or just wants to talk hit me up.

Yeah, my cussing/swearing/whatever is a bad habit.

Yeah, I got a little sloppy at the end... I was trying to finish it up too fast I guess...

Re: Creating Dissent Against School - A Field Manual. (EFO)

Right, well, I'll be away for about two weeks with little, to no Internet. I'll revise the guide a lot, but other than that, I'm not so sure what I'll be able to do. I'd like to get everything ready by the time school comes around, but I'm not sure how possible that's going to be.

Here's what we need to do:

>> Prepare for and get a national zine started for the EFO.
>> Get the EFO, and related works up on www.edfreedom.org
>> Get our mission statement, and purpose up on www.edfreedom.org
>> Get the website squared away. E.g. Get everything ready for full operation. (Including voting.)
>> And get some of us ready to actually start taking action within our schools... (Those of us that can have to actually act on what we preach.)

And that, as far as I can tell, is about all we need to do before school starts.

What should we call the monthly ZINE EFO is going to put out?

Maybe a Q&A and maybe a personal story page where we tell our story of surviving school.

Previously known as Derchin.

Good idea... That's definitely something we should look into. I'm not sure how we should go about making it so people can post their story, unless it's on the forums though... I'll work on it I guess.

The Daily Unschooler?

That sounds like a pretty good name... Let's compile a couple of different ideas, then we can vote via the EFO website's new poll page...

In other news, the website is almost finished. I want to expand the sides so it takes up the whole page, and that'll take me a day or two, but other than that, we're pretty much done. We just have to start adding pages like the Q&A, our "manifesto", and a couple of articles I suppose... I added a download section and put up the rough draft of the EFO Field Manual. If anyone has anything else they want added to the download section, just post it or whatever. Also, throw out any ideas you have here, we'll work on 'em and try to get 'em implemented.

Also, on the issue of fairness:

I don't think we should give everyone involved admin status on the website. That is purely because anyone who has admin status can completely destroy the entire site, and I don't have backups. (Soulriser might, but it's a pain in the ass to upload 'em...) So, like we agreed in the origional EFO chats, we should probably just have 1 person maintaining the website. (E.g. Soulriser and/or me.) I won't use the admin account unless I'm working on administrative things, I've already made an Absentinsomniac account and I'll use that for everything non-admin related.

What do you guys think? It's really not even up to me, I'm just putting at suggestions. I guess soulriser should have a big say in this, since it's her site and I think people can fuck up the server via exploits if they have admin.

Vote on the name of the zine, or suggest a different one...

Also, I worked on the site all day 'n stuff. It's ready to go IMO... We just need to add articles and shit.
