RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

Game vs. Real Life Violence
Sorry if someone already started this topic already, but has anyone noticed how people who talk a lot of shit about games and other forms of entertainment being "too violent" or "too disturbing" hardly care about real-life victims of violence and violence in general? For example, I know this guy online ( not off this site) who tells me my books and games( the one's I write and design- I'm designing a tabletop RPG right now if anyone cares) are disturbing and that I'm "evil". And yet, I told him about my past( been through all types of abuse) and how that I'm over it now, but I'm still a pissed out person( have every right to be). On top of that, he's selfish and doesn't care about anyone's probs. but his own and blames the victim(s) of violent acts. People like him fuckin' make me sick. Fuckin' hypocrites. Anyway, what does everyone else think?

Re: Game vs. Real Life Violence
Opinions aren't worth considering.
People who compare media violence to real life violence have long sense given up the ability to think logically as they are comparing real life to fantasy.
Honestly I don't think video game violence is realistic enough and I would love to see that improved.

Re: Game vs. Real Life Violence
Maybe in the future it could become a problem, when video games look like real life and killing in a video game seems the same as killing in real life, but right now? The impact is so minimal it doesn't even matter.

Even then the violence isn't real.

Yeah, your probably right. Even if it was extremely realistic, that doesn't mean someone's going to randomly go out and actually do it...

Not if you watch fox news... like my damn parents do.
"Ask them no more questions, never hear them lying"
People say the problem with me is I have psychotic tendencies and care not about other human beings I don't like and or know. So?

They called Bulletstorm a rape simulator because it had some innuendos.

What the fuck is up with american parents? All the violence imaginable in the entire world, sure no problem. But one mention of titties and holy shit its evil.

I don't know, nor do I even care. Really a non-issue to me so long as the games aren't banned.
And, to be honest, little kids really don't need to be playing these violent video games. I hate it when people are like "DUR HURR, I'VE NEVER PLAYED MARIO. WAT'S LEGEND OF ZELDA? THAT'S STUPID. I PLAY COCK OF DUTY." It's not their fault though. They got to play Halo when they were 5 and never touched Donkey Kong.
My parents always made me stay in the ratings when I played games, and I had to play Mario, and I'm a better person for it. It was either that or some crappy children's movie game.
It's good for kids. You shouldn't go around shooting Nazis in the head without first attempting to save a princess. That's just the natural order.

I know right? I've desensitised my parents though. A lot of times I can slip in a "fuck" or "shit" or a sex joke and they won't notice nowadays.
