RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

our nice teachers

its almost summer vacation and for some it already started. tomorrow is my last day of school so i would like to tell you about the ONLY nice teacher i had.

he wasn't really a teacher. he was an assistant. he helped my out my history teacher who is an ass. ever since the first day of school, he has been nice to everyone. he always helped everyone who was confused and he didn't get mad when someone asked the same question twice. you could ask the same thing 10 times and he wouldn't be mad and he would help you. i remember the second week of school, our history teacher which i call la siguanaba,( an ugly woman from a salvadoran myth) was being an ass to everyone. i hated her so my friend i began to rebel together. we did the opposite of what we were told. we always made her mad everyday and her assistant didn't care too much and when he did care, he didn't lose his temper. or insult me. instead, he told me that he could see something in me. he told me that one day, i would be something big. like a business man. he was trying to encourage me instead of putting me down like my history teacher. so when that happened i didn't stop fooling around. i just calmed down a bit and when i did, he let me entertain my friends. so far, he has been the best assistant ever.

i already told you about my best teacher. so its your turn. please tell us about your nice teachers.

democracy died when compulsory schooling was born.

Re: our nice teachers

My science teacher. He retired this year with his wife (she taught at the same school as a math teacher). I talk about him a lot here, because he just wins that hard. He let my call home from someones cellphone to get picked up because the nurse said no, even though I threw up, since I had the decency to find a toilet, I didn't count. He would have NONE of that, and sent my ass home, which got him in a shitton of trouble. (I tried leaving his name out, but they apparently wouldn't have that)

We could sit anywhere (he preferred we sat where me normally did though, it was hard enough for him to remember names... he still called me Ashley on the last day. Laugh ) And that includes on top of the tables, on the floor, in peoples laps, pretty much anywhere it was physically possible to sit. We could talk on cell phones, listen to music, play video games, anything. He was one of the only ones that spoke up against the uniform policy, and was never invited back to the meetings, because the school district would stop at nothing to have these uniforms. There was never actually a fair debate on this idea, like they always said. Anyone who disagreed was out.

I could go on, but you've heard it all before.

Re: our nice teachers

Starting from my high school days:

Freshman year: my gym teacher, my English teacher, my math teacher. The others were nice, but they weren't exactly the best teachers, so I won't count them.

Sophomore year: my Spanish teacher, my history teachers, my gym teachers, my photography teacher, my math teacher, my chemistry teacher, and my English teacher.

Re: our nice teachers

My math teacher on 7th grade wasn't all that "nice" but he still was a good teacher and made me like math...

Can't really think about anyone else.
