To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

L went and mass-deleted over 9000 (actually over 100k) posts. Why? Well, here's what he said about it:

So anyway, then I was gonna go restore a backup, only to realize that my auto-backup system hadn't been making backups properly all this time. So the latest backup I had that would actually WORK was from 20 June. That's when I went all "fuck it, I'll do this later".
Auto-backup system is now fixed so at least that won't happen again. L is no longer a mod. And Leon Kinotolian is now a mod.

I figured out SS was down and asked L about it he fessed up. I found it kind of amusing actually. 
Also I'm on the boat with 5 we need less mods. The reason we have so many mods is because of the problem we had with spambots back in the early days. I think it would be a good Idea to either throw some mods on the chopping block or simply not replace them as they resign/get de-moded.

Yep. As nice as it is to have a semi-trusting environment where loads of people can be mods and have it work out OK, it really isn't necessary. The vast majority of mods never really do anything anyway. So there's no point in having people be mods if they aren't gonna do something useful with it. Maybe I'll even consider de-modding people who haven't used their powa in a while. But that would involve checking up in the logs so I probably won't bother.

Just demod people that don't bother to log in anymore. If somebody hasn't been on in 3 months, they're just a security risk.

If you de-mod active members there will be fighting. I think the best way to go would be to de-mod inactive members and not replace them.
Oh, and I get the feeling some of the mods are afraid to use their powers due to the anti-censorship issue. Perhaps some more guidelines or maybe even just the enforcement of already existing guidelines could be useful.
Oh, and this whole thing wasn't that big of an issue, it's not like anything serious was lost... This doesn't require radical change, just a few adjustments. If a few shitstorms occur every once in a while in exchange for equality and freedom on the forums than who gives a shit?
