RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

TL;DR - Electoral college map is skewed in favor of rural white areas.

Yeah the main argument for EC is that "certain states would override others" but this ignores the fact that Texas has solidly blue areas and California has some solidly red areas as well.

I find it bullshit that certain states hold the key.

More people live in urban areas than rural areas. People in urban areas tend to vote democrat. Democrats would have the advantage if we used a popular vote system, which I'd be fine with.

The "Urban vote Democrat, Rural vote Republican" is actually very recent.

In the 80s the nation overwhelmingly voted for Ronald Reagan. In the 90s a lot of white conservative southerners voted for Bill Clinton. Electoral maps are constantly changing. Texas used to be a solid blue state while California used to be a red state.

Consider this. The US is purple in regards to political affiliation, yet many of the middle states are red as fuck when represented in Congress(especially through House of Representatives, which has been skewed dominantly as Republican for decades).

Meaning the US population has been horrendously misrepresented for years, which is probably why Democrats tend to benefit the country and Republicans tend to fuck it up.

Yeah, not to mention the constant gerrymandering that the Republicans do as well as their voter restriction laws which include:

*Voter ID laws in NC
*Limiting polling places in Wisconsin
etc, etc. Such shit has got us into the situation we're in now.

Yeah. A serious issue right now is that a lot of populations are massively underrepresented. This is the case in states like Texas for example, where areas which typically have high number of Democrats are lumped with Republican areas, hence giving the feel that it's a Republican area, when in reality if the boundaries were more fair, they'd be blue areas.

One solution could be to adopt what Nebraska and Maine does, which would basically mean some ECs in CA could theoretically go to the Republican candidate, while ECs in TX could go to the Democratic candidate.

Don't get me started on the attempted secession of the state of Jefferson...
