RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

Lucid Dream experiment

You know those steps you're supposed to do in order to help you lucid dream?
1. Lay flat on your back with your eyes closed.
2. Breathe deeply and evenly, and ignore all impulses to move, scratch an itch, etc.
3. Stay that way for 5-10 minutes.
4. You should start feeling sleep paralysis kicking in, and then you should fall asleep and start dreaming while staying conscious- therefore you should be able to control your dream.

Well, I tried that last night, and it was pretty freaky but cool. I was laying there, just letting my mind wander to get my mind off of the random itches/twitches I was getting, and then after a while I felt my arms getting really really heavy. It was kind of difficult to keep them still before, but now it was easy. Then I felt my legs and feet turn the same way. My heart was beating weird, and I was having a little trouble controlling my breathing, but I was still breathing fine. I just wasn't controllling it. My eyes started darting around under my eyelids, and I almost got to the actual dream-

Enter my dad and brother making noise and watching Ren and Stimpy at 12 in the morning. XD I woke up, but it was still cool.
(BTW we were all in the same room, we're at my Grandma's, currently.)

It felt like an out of body experience. I kept trying to imagine myself on a boat on a river- I think because Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds popped into my head as I tried to think about what I wanted to dream. No solid images formed, and I didn't feel like I was necessarily in a dream, but I saw fading random colors, like when you press on your eyelids.

Anyway, have any of you tried similar processes to get yourself to lucid dream? How'd they work out? Any advice?

Carla Franklin may be a whore. She may be a wonderful, kind, moral woman. Seeing as I don't know her personally, I cannot know for sure. However, I find her actions (suing Google, requesting the personal info of her critics, getting angry over random internet idiocy that she should ignore and be bigger than, trying to get this site in trouble because of a few users' commentary on the situation, etc.) pretty ridiculous and unwarranted. If she didn't want people to to be talking about/judging her, well 1. that's impossible, she's a human, and 2. she shouldn't have been a model or agreed to be on film. AND 3. she DEFINITELY shouldn't have sued Google and made all this fuss over a few random idiots whom she probably won't ever know expressing their opinion. Mmkay? MMKAY.

Re: Lucid Dream experiment

That whole sleep paralysis thing happens to me a lot. My heart starts beating heavy, and my breathing goes haywire. I blame insomnia.

Re: Lucid Dream experiment

I hate lucid dreaming, whenever I had it it was like I was stuck in a dream and it took all my will power to escape it and wake up.

Re: Lucid Dream experiment

lol, you only experienced partial lucid dreaming then, you're supposed to be able to wake up at the drop of a hat.

Re: Lucid Dream experiment

Here's some advice for those attempting it. Don't keep your mind blank. Otherwise you spend three hours in nothing but darkness...also the dog sleeping at your feet will ruin the process when it starts to snore.

Re: Lucid Dream experiment

I used to have lucid dreams all the time as a kid, but I was terrified of sleeping (shit sucked man) so I'd freak out and try to wake up.

And now that I think lucid dreams are actually kind of cool I almost never have them and even when I do, I apparently forget that it might be interesting to dream about something other than sex.

Re: Lucid Dream experiment

Dreams are drug trips

Your brain releases DMT when you rem sleep, which is a hallucinogen that can also be found in plants and smoked.

Right before you die a shitton of DMT is released to your receptors resulting in glorious before death visions.

Re: Lucid Dream experiment

I tried it again, but I hate the numb feeling, so damn.

But I had a semi-lucid dream yesterday. I say semi because it wasn't completely me, but I influenced a lot of shit. There was some weird infestation of rabid wolf-dogs, and I was shooting them all, but then saw a normal one, it was a husky. So, I kept it, and just kept on shooting shit. The dog was kinda stupid, but smart in his own way... I want it. Anyway, the dream kicked ass.

Re: Lucid Dream experiment

I've yet to get this to work for me because my dog rolls around in his sleep. :(

But I remember this one semi-lucid dream I had a while back (Like Craykitten said, it wasn't like controlling...it was influence.) where I was in my room.
The door was open and zombie sounds played through the hallway.
A man ran into my room, yelling something I couldn't understand, and I looked at him.
As the sounds from the hall drew closer I calmly uncrossed my legs, got up from my bed and tossed the man out into the hallway before slamming the door and locking it.
I then sat back down on my bed until the man's screaming stopped and the door was slammed open.
That's when I stopped feeling calm.
I freaked out and was all 'Someone save me, scary dead people, OMG I NEED TO LIVE.' then in a typical fangirlish fashion someone smashed through my window, called me mean name, but saved me anyway.
Then one of their 'brothers' fell in a lake and was wearing a Hawaiian shirt and short shorts. Was lulzy.
