To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

Bumping old threads
I'm not crazy about it, but I don't think it's that huge of a deal. I suppose my main 'issue' (if I had one) would be with the quality of the posts. If the bumps actually had substance of value (value being subjective, yadda yadda yadda) as opposed to just a quote or "This" I'd wager there be less complaining. I don't really care all that much though.
Besides, what could seriously be done about this?

I am not against necroing if there's new information brought to the table, something which sparks conversation. The only chatter these recent bumps have started are two threads complaining about necromancy (made by yours truly, of course). I am aware that my stock has plummeted around here, but all these posts do is clutter up my feed, meaning I don't even bother visiting School Talk and a couple of other boards anymore.
Not good.

Bumping old threads
I like how it brings some of the old discussions back to life though, especially among the newer members.
If there was a plugin that added the ability to filter out stuff in the recent posts feed based on the difference in time between first and latest post, that could be a possible solution, but obviously it can't do anything about post length or quality.
I also definitely can't be bothered to code that feature in. But that's about the only solution I can think of. It's not the posts themselves that are the problem, it's that some people don't want to see them in their feed.
I'm a member of another forum that runs on IPB, and I must admit I really like how it handles subscriptions, and user following, notifications etc. Costs $200 once off and $50 a year though!

Whatev. No opinion. Sometimes it generates activity and revives a thread. Most of the bumpers tend to be new folk who don't check the dates anyway but find the title attractive or curious.

I used to be the master necro on here for a while.
I think most people just bump on accident, or just want to continue an old discussion instead of an entirely new topic on the same subject. Honestly it's better that way since it kinda gives continuity.
