RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Year 10 boys want to get my math teacher fired for nothing. How can I save her?

Today, I was going home by the bus when suddenly, the Year 10 boys started saying some very bad things about my Math teacher. First, they made fun of her first name, then told me to kiss that teacher and have sex with her in class, and then, when I said no, they said that they will report her and make up a silly excuse about her being a pedophile (which she is not) just so that they can upset me and get her fired for no reason. Also, when I saw the boys, I knew that I've seen one of them in my math class once. I remember the math teacher telling him off for going to a Year 9 lesson and having a chat with some of my classmates (which I didn't see him doing back then because my art teacher let me out of class late). I also heard that this boy was treating my math teacher like a little girl just because both her dress and her headscarf were navy. One of the Year 10 boys who were in the bus with me is in another school (I have a feeling that he got excluded from my school permanently), rest of them go to my school. The Year 10 boys also said that my math teacher is a bad teacher. Plus I'm supposed to have maths tomorrow. Those mean Year 10's do everything to make that teacher cry all the time. This time they're going too far! She hasn't done anything wrong! How do I save that teacher from getting fired? I don't want her to get fired because of Year 10's mistreating her. Also, how can I stop them from getting the teacher fired when they're Year 10's and I'm a Year 9? How will I save her? She didn't do anything wrong!

It won't be that easy for them. The school administration expects kids to be full of shit. But if you're worried for her then DOCUMENT and COMMUNICATE. Keep a written log of what was said, who said it, and when. If you have thoroughly compiled all of the evidence then that gives you something to stand on when you communicate with the administration about the problem. It will help if you can show that it's a credible threat. But don't worry too much, I really don't think that the scheme succeeding or failing will hinge on whether you headed them off. If it were me, I would collect the evidence but wouldn't do anything until something actually happened. Hear that she got fired/suspended, suddenly a substitute teacher, anything off the script like that? Right to the admin to discuss. So that's just a matter of how immediate and credible you feel the problem is.

As far as the mistreatment in general, what can you do but be a positive presence in your teacher's life? That's all that can be expected of you.

I told my Form Tutor and the Head of Maths about the threat. The Head of Maths started watching those kids and they didn't like it, so they moved to Whitmore High School. I saw them on the bus a few days later and they called an art teacher who doesn't teach me a bitch. I felt sorry for her, even though I didn't know her. They also asked me if I still like my math teacher. Sorry that I wasn't able to reply in a while.
