RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

Rodrigo Duterte

Discuss this fella.

He seems hell bent on ruining the Philippines' relationship with the US and sucking China's cock instead, despite conflicting claims over the whole South China Sea debacle.

http://www.reuters.com/article/us-philip...SKCN12C06Q

"About 250 Philippine business executives will visit Beijing with President Rodrigo Duterte next week as he puts aside years of hostility to seek a new partnership with China at a time when tensions between Manila and its traditional ally, the United States, are mounting."

I've got half a mind to think he's a Chinese puppet but China is increasingly becoming a massive power so maybe with such close proximity it is a good thing to be looking to taking advantage of their massive economy?

And of course there's his treatment towards drug users in his country. The use of drugs is definitely a problem in the Philippines, but there must be a better way to go about it than straight up death squads.

..I generally don't have high hopes for a leader when their solution for ending drug abuse is essentially the Holocaust but instead of Jews, it's junkies. That just shows you can't make actual solutions and will just resort to fear and violence to fix your problems.

He's the physical incarnation of 4Chan, now running a country.

Rodrigo Duterte

Oh boy. I'm half-Filipino and I'm not particularly thrilled about this guy. His ruthlessness is kind of scary. I'm not too thrilled with these death squads; it sounds as if he's doing away with a clear trial.

The fact that he's crude in the way he refers to people, reminds me of Trump. To be fair, Trump hasn't outlined a plan to set up death squads though.

I don't like how he wants to imitate Hitler. I wouldn't go so far to call him the human 4chan though. At least not yet.

Your theory he's a Chinese puppet is interesting. This article says that he wants to increase ties to Russia and China. https://www.rt.com/news/360677-duterte-t...sia-china/ I also know that China built cities in Africa; it would be interesting if they started the same in the Philippines. Then there's the fact that in the Philippines, many in the Chinese-descent community are business types. This article might also be of interest: https://www.rt.com/news/362395-duterte-c...ashington/

Yeah this is what bothers me too. I wouldn't even necessarily be opposed to him cracking down hard on drug use but to do so through such savage means isn't something I can support. It says "I'm completely ok with a 3rd world justice system and have no desire to go beyond that". Not to mention the potential massive corruption accompanying this method

If one's trying to shit on the US Russia's a goto power but they're a shadow of their former self (and far more interested in Europe anyway) so it's worth focusing more on China here. Russia isn't able to project force in the pacific in the way that China can, not to mention China's far more ambitious in the pacific than Russia. Russia might sell them some military equipment but I don't think much more will come out of a relationship between the two. Idk, it's probably better to wait and see what comes out of this upcoming meeting http://www.reuters.com/article/us-philip...SKCN12C0OW
"Duterte said on Tuesday he will also probably visit Russia after a trip to Japan this month."

I only know that China has a lot of workers residing in East Africa but piss all beyond that. Would like to know more about this.

Yes, definitely. I'm not aware of any safeguards to make sure that only the drug traffickers will be targeted.

Here's an article: http://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-18646243 Strange that they built this city outside their country. Even stranger still that not too many people (African or Chinese) have moved into it.
