RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Is it weird to wonder these sorts of things?

Is it weird to wonder if life is really real? Like are we living in a virtual reality or dream or something of that nature? Or am I going crazy thinking these sorts of thoughts?

I like you already! I don't think it's weird, I mean, no one really has a clue about the all out whole truth about life.

RE: Is it weird to wonder these sorts of things?

When I was a kid I used to think that maybe everyone else was a robot or alien and I was part of some kind of experiment. I guess kind of like the Truman Show. Then when I got older I went through a phase where I decided I didn't feel like how a living thing should feel. Disconnected. Then I went through a period where I kept imagining that everything on earth except for me was going to turn into water. I thought about it a lot. Like I would be in a building and think if all this stuff turns to water right now I'll fall 100 ft in a cascade.

Welcome to the forums, assuming you're new here that is.

As for your question, it occurs to me once in a while that, whenever I get lost in thought for any reason, I too question that from time to time. Atleast the "do we exist? Is this real life?" aspect of things. I usually don't look too deeply into that though, considering there's no universally-agreeable answer to such a question that varies greatly depending on the outcome, and their response to said question that arguably, not everyone may agree on.

But to answer your question: No. I don't think it's weird to wonder that. Others mileages may vary though.

Joker

No offense but from what you wrote I don't think you understand solipsism.

Sorry I took so long to get back to you. I guess you could say I'm fairly new. This was actually my first thread that I posed, and I joined earlier this month.

Is that the term for what I've been going through?

Maybe. There are times where I feel as though the pressure to conform has led to me being somebody I'm not meant to be. There have also been times where I've woken from dreams, and it actually would take me a few seconds to realize that it was only a dream.

There are other times where I feel like I actually want life to be a dream, because I want to believe that the mess I've gotten into isn't happening.

As strange as that sounds initially, there are times where I too felt disconnected. And recently I've had times where I would imagine myself swimming in water. Maybe it's because it's been a long time since I last swam. Hopefully I can get in the water this summer.

Thanks. There's so much out there which doesn't make sense. One thing I was recently looking into was the Mandela Effect. I'm still not sure why a bunch of people would mis-remember things the same way. Or maybe they're not mis-remembering and reality's been shifted.

That's actually why Lion and Wolf are in my username. Some people claim a Bible verse changed, that it used to read "The lion shall lay down with the lamb" but now reads "the wolf shall lay down with the lamb." It's odd, I thought I actually read that part of the Bible and yet I got it wrong. But then again, I thought it was Berenstein Bears, not Berenstain Bears, and I read the Berenstain Bears too. But Unicorn's in there because I just think they're cool.
