To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

American School is so bad that My Clearly Visible Disability was Never Identified
And I went to one of the "best" high schools in my state.
I am on the autism spectrum. I have some talents but also some disabilities which need remediating. Despite my strange behavior, even the "good" teachers in my high school (and my parents) went on about how lazy I was and never referred me for the help I needed. This continued in college.
In addition to the high cost and conformity of college, a couple of my teachers basically lied to me when I was struggling that I could "pull myself together", even though I clearly had visible issues. I would act strangely in class and was repeatedly humiliated for it. Getting a job requires a lot of social interaction, so I never found a job. Thank goodness I got help and now I am studying for an IT job.
The only good thing was I studied abroad in France for one semester and the main professor there was far more helpful than almost any teacher I had in America.

Being humiliated never helped anyone... sorry to hear you had such crappy teachers. :(
But at least things are going better now, right?
Not all jobs require that much social interaction though... thankfully. Otherwise I'd have gone insane by now.

I'm really sorry to hear that. It sounds like a really nightmarish way to have to go through school (not that there's much of a non-nightmarish way to go through school).
I don't have autism, but hear hear for nonsocial type jobs like IT.

Wow. That is fucking horrible to not get help. You clearly needed it and nobody cared enough. At least you got it later, but goddamn that really sucks. Nobody should be treated like that.

What form would the help take exactly? Like, to what extent are people like you actually understood in the way of "getting through to you"

Work was a mystery to me. Now I've got my name as the owner of 3 different businesses and I'm looking at a 4th(as a non-profit). I'm not rolling in cash, but I've had profits(meager but better than a loss)
