RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

LanSchool - When teachers blank your shit without a warning
Don't you hate when teachers blank your screen out WHILE YOU ARE WORKING ON SOMETHING?
This has happened to me so many times when I was going to an Intermediate School in the computer lab.
Kind of makes me want to chuck the mouse at the teacher. (Probably not a good idea.)
But my business and marketing teacher warns that he is going to blank the screens (Put a blue screen that locks the keyboard and mouse out.)
What are your pet peeves about LanSchool or Computer Labs?

It tracks you and shit. Controlling your computer. If the teacher is feeling like being a bitch, a teacher can blank the screen and fuck your project over. I've only dealt with it once (and I didn't experience the blank screen).
schoolsux's countdown until school ends:
177 days until i get out of freshman year (aka hell)
1280 days until I get out of prison (aka school)
(as of november 28, 2016)
also school

Teacher can control your mouse and mess with your computer if they want to.

God dang it. The very nature of that software would call for a ban. What's worse is the harridan of a teacher I've had who abused it constantly. She's tried to kick me out of class while preventing me from saving my work and ejecting my flash drive. I still want to lock her in a room with starved crocodiles.

I don't know if LanSchool and Insight are practically identical in terms of features, but from what I've dealt with in terms of experience, Insight is just as bad -- if not worse.
Insight has the same shit where they can blank your screens whenever they want like LanSchool has, but not only that, they can block USB drives, screenshot what your doing, remote control your computer while atleast the mouse is deactivated, and even restart/shutdown/log you into your computer. Needless to say, it's fucking creepy when you're powerless to stop them. The only way you can circumvent that level of invasion is to disconnect from the Internet, unplug your LAN cable, or get your good ol' Linux USB stick out, and use that to access the Internet (assuming it's not censored, that is...) And that's probably just scratching the surface as far as I remember.
Granted, I've usually been fortunate enough to have a teacher who's not abusive when it comes to that power, but that doesn't say a whole lot.
Either way, I feel you man.

Insight is actually LanSchool but basically different icons.
That's because I googled it.

Welp, guess I've should've seen that coming considering they seemed identical when I bothered to google it...

The censorship software a school I've been to used was client-side, so Linux or even installing a different browser circumvented it.

Well, unfortunately for me, the school's computers are server-side. I've tested it with both a live Linux distribution and the Firefox browser on my USB, and whenever I tried to go on DuckDuckGo for example, it'd give me an "Insecure Connection", and IIRC it didn't work anyway if I added it as an exception.
Then again, my computer teacher might be lying about the computers in her classroom being server-side, but from what I'm able to tell, they do seem to be server-side.
