RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.
-SoulRiser

Rules of the Game (updated 7/14, most recent change in red)
READ THESE CAREFULLY TO AVOID LOOKING LIKE A DICK:
- Nations cannot be claimed under your power if someone is already ruling it. It's as simple as that.
- If there are no nations to be claimed, you may do the following: a) post in a league of nations meeting and ask for a new territory for yourself, or b) be the resident of a nation.
- Building on a) from the last point: you can ask for a new territory that is created from: a) a secession from an existing nation, or b) a piece of unorganized territory.
- Unorganized territory can only be claimed during league of nations meetings.
- Meetings shall occur every other day.
- If the nation you want is open to a governmental system where there is more than one leader, you can ask the existing leader for assistance in leadership. Then you must change the nation's topic accordingly.
- If you want to address a nation directly, it must go in its own topic.
- You can't change your country's name until a league of nations meeting.
- You can't update your country more than 40 times per day.
IF YOU ARE CREATING A NATION:
- Notify me, the mapmaker, through PM. Tell me the location and size of your new nation.
- Create a new topic telling the following details about your new nation:
1. Leader
2. Flag
3. Residents
4. Government system
5. Economic system
6. National anthem
WHAT HAPPENS DURING MEETINGS OF NATIONS:
- We discuss what we do with unorganized territory.
- We discuss the potential creation for new nations, should the subject come up.
- We try to settle disputes between nations.
- We declare war.
- We change our countries' names (if we need to)
- Meetings happen every other day.
And I think that's it.

Also, no creating a huge-ass army with nuclear submarines/aircraft carriers/nuclear missiles/etc in like two posts. No declaring war every other day either.

Re: We're starting new (RULES OF ROUND 3)
When does the claiming begin?
"I heard a joke once. Man goes to doctor says "I'm terribly depressed". Doctor says "I know just what you should do. Poliacci the clown is in town, go see him, you'll be cheered right up." The man bursts into tears. "But Doctor, I am Poliacci." Funny joke. Roll on snare drum. Everyone laugh."

Either the bronze age or the industrial revolution would be nice.

I see many holes left in your rules. First, there is nothing about building things/armies, and whatnot.
Whilst some work diligently there are those who ask why. I am one of them

Restrictions on military stuff are discussed in meetings.

I don't believe that's what alucard meant. He was talking about the rate people build their armies, how many times a page you can update your stats, etc..

Army rates are decided in meetings.
I'll update the rules with a "how many times you can update per day" rule.

jesus christ 40 times? You could have every piece of technology under the sun I was thinking more like once per page.

It doesn't really matter, people will still powerbuild anyway as they'll just research and build multiple things in one post like dicks.

Which is why this would be an awesome online game, to make a program that goes all "NO U" When it's asked to do too much/powerbuild. Too bad that requires effort.

We should all get Rome: Total War, and duke it out with massive armies
