RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

Any advice?
I decided to organise a student strike in school, but unfortunately the only people willing to help are either total idiots who could ruin any possible message behind just based on their reputation, or a small group of friends who don't exactly have much in the way of social skills to convince other people to join in, and the biggest problem is that pretty much everyone will give up and chicken out if the people striking are the minority in comparison to those who are staying in school, does anyone have any ideas how to convince more people to join the cause?

Any advice?
What's the main reason that people aren't joining in?

From what I can tell it appears to be either thinking school is supporting their rights or simply thinking that the school should be allowed to violate their rights.

What do you want to strike against, specifically?

There a re various things but the biggest is the schools recent decision to put CCTV in the bathrooms (yes you read that correctly), most people want to get rid of them but are either too lazy or politically unmotivated to do anything.

If you live in America, there is no way in hell they are going to put CCTV in the bathroom.
This strike of yours, will only give you a bad rep. If i were you, i would get you and some people, to go talk to the principal or board director. That has worked for me on numerous occasions.

Unfortunately I live in the uk, we don't have the constitution here, and I checked extensively about the legalities and as far as I can tell, if they inform us that it's been put in there and it is not hidden they can do it legally. Not to mention the staff in our school often refuse to listen to students complaints, we've tried telling them our concerns, but they're refusing to listen. I understand why you would say that it'll give us a a bad rep, but if enough people strike, they can't punish us all.

Oh let me tell you, they certainly will punish you all. I once fell victim to this sort of plan many years ago. Honestly man, there is not much you can do. Some things are the way they are, just put a piece of paper in front of the camera saying fuck off or something, that would do more than a bunch of 14 year olds in a strike that most of them don't even know why they are in a strike.
