RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.
-SoulRiser

Zines
I decided to make a zine and hand it out in school, I have most of the content figured out, except for one major thing... A title. Any ideas?
"It is difficult to free fools from the chains they revere" - Voltaire
"They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." - Benjamin Franklin
"If you want a vision of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face - forever." - George Orwell
"Education is a system of imposed ignorance." - Noam Chomsky
"Blessed are the Cheesemakers" - Monty Python
"Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will spend it's whole life believing that it is stupid." - Albert Einstein
"After coming into contact with a religious man I always feel I must wash my hands" - Friedrich Nietzsche
"Love thy neighbour turn him in, it's called patriotism" - KMFDM

RE: Zines
Never mind, one of my freinds just came up with an idea.

Was the idea to add the letters "maga" to the front of it?

Quote:The "shazzam" serves as the voice of disenfranchised students and staff as well as the beacon to help educate others on matters important to us all. Our title stands for education as a whole against the failures of the institutions to provide it. We seek to review and analyze the UK educational system in a clear-cut yet unbiased manner.
1. Students are frequently taught to be responsible and to be proactive. Unfortunately, we all end up dealing with a serious case of "do as I say, not as I do" which leads to many conflicts and confusion inside of and outside of the classroom. Our choice of access to learning materials online is restricted despite the progress in technology that permits us to find what we seek.
2. To understand the value of education, we as students must experience the academic freedom that allows us to grasp it. Without liberty to experiment and without the proper skills taught to us, it is no surprise that some students lose valuable skills and talents by the time they graduate and move onto higher education.
3. As the future generation of the country, it is the concern of our elders that we be prepared to take the mantle and progress our society. However, it is sometimes forgotten that as the future generation, it is our concern that we be given the proper tools to manage a world that will be passed onto us. Failure in administration and education harms not only our own futures but that of our descendants whom we may not be able to aid if we are not given the education we deserve.
Thus not only as students, but those who are concerned for the long-term. Who wish for a better future not riddled with inability and inattention, it is vital that our voice be heard even if no action is taken. It is vital that those who may have thoughts of reform and policy change are aware that they do have our support and that we do have the capacity to show concern for our generation even if we are still young of age. We hope this magazine will serve as the focal point to finally give voice to the silent majority among us.
"shazzam" is placeholder for name of magazine. Let this be considered my constructive critique.

RE: Zines
I think yours is better. The one I posted was mostly written by a friend from school, I mostly decided he should write it because he is in a higher set for English, I guess we could probably switch it for yours as we are still designing it, as long as you're okay with us using yours?
