RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

RE: Some poetry

No I kind of cooked that up based on my own feelings and ideas as a young poet.

Language is a core component of logical thought. Language for the most part shapes our creation as well as understanding of it.

So...your own ideas are still shaped by the knowledge passed onto you.

RE: Some poetry

Incorrect, I have had no one/nothing hand that knowledge to me. No one knows where language came from, it's impossible to comprehend these things using the three dimensional brain.

Who cares where it comes from. The basic fact is that words define how we perceive terms and beliefs. Best example is for color.

When did "wood-color" get replaced by "brown"? If you were taught English, you were taught to think within the logical constraints of the English language. The fact you went to school and were taught to speak English means you were given knowledge contained within that specific language.

And it's not impossible to comprehend "these things". The fact you can think of them and create a word around it, and define said word, implies you are capable of comprehending it even if there's no scientific basis or "clear evidence".

You're approach tends to take people to a point of crazy you may not want to do down. The whole "impossible to comprehend" attribution to art/poetry/soul is just a fanciful stretch of nonsense. Plus it sounds all hippy-ish, and I hate hippy.

RE: Some poetry

Your "hatred" for hippies does not concern me, if I'm a hippy for this than so be it. By saying that my beliefs are "nonsense and (negatively) hippy ish", you are leaning towards dogmatism and egocentrism which is exasperating to say the least, also you have to open up to reality that you could be wrong, I am merely asserting the fact that humans know little is this vast universe and that no one has all the answers, in fact I assumed that you would know that "geniuses keep asking, foolish people question no more, being the logical person you are.

If your side of the argument is part of the "vast unknown" then how can you speak so knowingly?

It's typical for some folk to use the system of debate where they respond via:
>Make Opinion
-response in the negative/contrary
>"You're wrong cause nobody can know"

In fact it's a logical paradox. If a human says you know little, how do they know what little they know they think is little since assuming something is a little of a big piece means we know there's a big to compare it to otherwise the little would not be little?

I've been saying that your entire conscious will always be shaped by others before it's shaped by you. Long before you reach the level of conscious awareness, you'll be bombarded by your surrounding environment, people, location, and genetics. Iz le fact. No matter how much you tell yourself that it's not true, and that there's a spiritual power hovering around, there's no arguing that you weren't "infected" between leaving the womb to reaching the age where you gain the mental capacity to become aware of your awareness.

I've always said that language impacts your logical thought process, and the fact we continue to develop the language to fit our developments clearly indicates our need to make our language capable of matching our progress...hence our language vocabulary practically defines our capacity to think and understand. Just looking at the etymology of many words clearly indicates a basic foundation in either Greek or Latin, thus Western philosophy.

RE: Some poetry

The funny thing about this is that you are either believing what other people have told/showed you, read it etc or have come up with this stuff on your own with only your senses than you want to believe that all your statements must be incontrovertibly true, while denying that mine may be, evidence points to above and the fact that you believe lust and love are synonymous without living up to the possibility that they may be not.

Is this a song you like? How is my statement dogma, do you feel mightier saying that?

I'm not even saying which one of you I think is right, I'm just saying it's pretty clear that you two aren't going to come to an agreement here.

Found out how to change the title this time. You're welcome, guys.

Anyway, I find these arguments to be rather tedious. I don't care for them much at all.

No need for this, I am not interested in getting into debates with Brainiac anymore, especially if it's just going to annoy people.

Arguments with brainiac are always tedious. I've been debating with my various personas for years now with no end in sight.
