RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

Things GoSS Players Should Not Be Allowed To Do
While I wait for some activity, I just thought I'd liven things up with a little game.
The object? To look back through the history of Geography of School Survival and make a note of what things we probably wouldn't - or at least shouldn't - get away with if we were to try them now. The following, then, is a list of unofficial rules:
1. No hosting maps on Imageshack.
2. No bribing other players with bacon.
3. Even if the other rules allow it, your country will not experience a ludicrous change in morale over the course of just one turn.
4. Establishing an entire armed forces from scratch in just one turn is also highly improbable.
5. It will take a lot more than two turns to conceive of, research, and build nuclear weapons. Especially if you're playing in a pre-scientific time period.
6. There is no such thing as a "raw goat mine".
7. Dropping nuclear weapons on other players' countries is generally frowned upon.
8. References to Duck Soup should be kept at a minimum.
9. Naming in-game countries after real world ones should be avoided, even if there is an in-universe explanation.
10. No claiming the moon.
11. No claiming (or creating) orbital space stations. That includes the moon.
12. Referring to the citizens of other nations as "faggots" is not an appropriate form of international discourse.
13. Just because a new iteration of the game is being planned doesn't mean you can nuke the entire world.
14. The proper spelling of "country" does not omit the o.
15. There is no such thing as an "Outernet".
16. It would be impossible to program missiles to detect capitalism. Or communism, for that matter.
Public Service Announcement: First world problems are still problems.

Things GoSS Players Should Not Be Allowed To Do
17. Political parties tend not to be structured like sports teams.
18. Let's face it, sentient zombies are unrealistic. Having the physique of a corpse would result in subhuman fragility and an inability to withstand inclement weather - if it were possible to raise the dead, it would not be possible to do so for very long.
19. "Smith" and "Jones" are examples of common last names. "Onarevyl" is not.
20. References to Elder Scrolls games should be kept at a minimum.
21. Spin-offs based on popular franchises never go well. So don't try to make one.
22. Blimps should not be counted on as reliable means of escape.
23. Bombs do not "taste good".
24. Memes, however dank they may be, cannot be weaponized.
25. "Blood for the Blood God", or any variant thereof, is no longer to be used as a battlecry.
26. Just because you're acting as the GM doesn't mean you're suddenly allowed to autohit whenever and wherever you please.
27. No weaponizing the weather.
28. No naming villains after people you hate. Even if they did troll the School Survival forums at one point.
29. Cartoon characters are not capable of interacting with live action, despite what Roger Rabbit may have you believe.
30. Threatening to destroy other nations during the first League meeting is generally frowned upon.
31. Seizing game-protected territories is expressly prohibited, even if you do give half of your conquest to the League of Nations when you're done.
32. You cannot force other players to call your character by his absurdly long name and title.
33. You cannot force other players to be your slave in exchange for some in-game benefit.
34. Come to think of it, you can't really force other players to do anything.
35. No bribing other players with explosive bullets.
36. Mustard gas is real. Ketchup gas, sour cream gas, and relish gas are not.
37. Dropping teddy bears on major population centers, while cute, is not an effective means of contacting the public.
38. There is no ancient conspiracy.
39. Well, maybe there's an ancient conspiracy, but it probably doesn't have an arm in every nation's government.
40. Kraft Macaroni and Cheese cannot be weaponized.
41. No controlling the actions of other players' characters. That goes double if you're DoA.
42. Hostage situations are best not resolved by killing everyone.
43. From here on out, no one is to name their General "Lareneg".
44. Appropriating names from other franchises is generally not a good idea.
45. Killing another player's character in an attempt to gain godlike powers is generally frowned upon.
Public Service Announcement: First world problems are still problems.

oh and also No one has any rights. We're free, rights create invisible restrictions. But we live in a society where the majority accepts rights to be true.
