RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

Interesting conversation earlier regarding ADHD

Here is what I said/my thoughts organized into an essay:

I was off my ADHD medicine today because my mom just got it filled and it didn't look right/looked different.
I've noticed a lot of differences with and without
my ADHD medicine.
My ADHD medicine isn't very strong, but despite that, there are pretty noticeable effects.
I tend to be a little slower in my conversations, I stutter a lot, my appetite is diminished almost completely, honestly it'd be best for me to get off it...
Also I'm quieter, which is somewhat expected though.
I wanna get off of it, but it's not easy to just simply refuse it.
I didn't notice any problems with my attention today, in fact I noticed little to no difference between my attention span and my classmates'.
My mom thinks because of that, my ADHD medicine isn't strong enough. *facepalm*
Honestly I don't even know if I have ADHD really.. that's if it even exists.

My diagnosis stems to this story;

So there was this kid in my class in 2nd grade, he was slightly special eds, and whenever you laughed at him he would just go berserk.. I would laugh at him in class, and no one else really did, but I paid attention to him because he was really entertaining me and he made me laugh, no one else would laugh at him. I think that's the main origin of my diagnosis.
I was also very unorganized which for some reason could have also been a factor.. It's unfortunate. I think I've grown out of it/it's gotten better, if I ever had it. Honestly I think ADHD/ADD is often confused with personality. Some people are just naturally energetic. It's sorta like the goal is to get everyone as similar as possible.

Your thoughts?

You were diagnosed with ADHD for being an asshole?

Why aren't more people on drugs then?!?!?!?!

People these day seem to think kids should be sitting down quietly studying/reading. Anything with a bit of energy is considered a problem. Nonsensical crap.

I can't remember whether he was on an IEP or special needs.

But if I remember correctly he wasn't completely different then everyone else when it came to communicating...

He was just funny to me..

If you don't like it, refuse it. Shitty grades aren't worth your well being. Tell your mom that you can concentrate just fine when you want to.
