RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

Bus driver resigned after refusing to let kids off.

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/crime/wa...-1.2212813

Quote:An Arizona bus driver resigned following an investigation after he refused to let elementary students off the bus last month because they would not listen to him.

After several minutes a parent even called police and the driver drove away from a bus stop because an adult tried to enter the vehicle.

"The longer we stay here the longer your parents are going to be getting upset," the driver told the children, according to the surveillance video obtained by TV Station ABC 15. "And not at me they're going to be upset with you, because it's your fault you're not getting off the bus."

The unidentified driver arrived at the stop on April 28 and tried to talk to the children about their behavior, Dysart Unified School District spokesman Jim Dean told the Daily News. But the children were not listening to him and were talking over him, Dean said. So the driver decided to wait before letting them off.

But parents at the stop were becoming upset their children were not being allowed to leave.

At one point in the video a child can be heard screaming "Help us!" and then "Help!"

At one point someone tried to pry open the door and caused $1,500 worth of damage, Dean said. The district opted against filing charges against the individual.

"You break that door you're going to be buying a new one!" the driver snapped. "Your kid will get off the bus when I am done with them."

A parent called 911 after an estimated 10 minutes at the scene and pleaded with police to arrive.

"There's fights almost starting and he's screaming at us," the father told the dispatcher.

He also said the children were crying.

Another adult tried to enter the bus and the driver pulled away and returned to the school as a safety precaution.

“Our main job is to protect student safety,” Dean said.

The parent who called police followed the vehicle and he stayed on the line until an officer arrived about eight minutes later.

An El Mirage police Lt. Laura Liuzzo told The News the incident is under investigation and no charges have been filed. The department is not releasing any further information.

The driver resigned his position on Friday, Dean said. The district is investigating the incident.

It's amazing how dedicated people are to the idea kids never need to shut their mouths.

If you want to be a different fish, you've got to jump out of the school.

In short, there are better ways of helping people learn and grow, develop self-management skills and a sense of what's appropriate.

RE: Bus driver resigned after refusing to let kids off.

All those idiot kids had to do was shut their mouths but instead they keep wailing like a bunch of tortured baboons. He just needed them to shut up because their incessant insanity was making it impossible to drive safely. Nobody can think when it's like that. The parents should be thankful that he is willing to make a stand and try to do the right thing for their children's safety.

If you want to be a different fish, you've got to jump out of the school.

Bus driver resigned after refusing to let kids off.

So, why would they be doing that? What skills or sensitivities are they missing? How horrible might their school or home life be, or what might it be missing?

Jumping immediately to "bad behavior, so let's mock and punish" rarely if ever helps improve things.

If the driver was at a stop where parents were, why not just let some of the offending kids off... and maybe talk to the parents? If the issue really was safe driving, stopping the bus might make sense... but refusing to let kids off, not calling for help, and instead focusing on punishing them... why?

RE: Bus driver resigned after refusing to let kids off.

Because he has to be able to control the goddamn bus. Those kids are idiots because their parents are idiots. Apple doesn't fall from the tree. That news story is a joke. Oh some kid says, "Help us!" as if that isn't the most canned distressed bullshit ever. That kid should never be allowed on a school bus again. In fact, all those little bitches should either have to walk or just quit school or their spoiled shit parents should lose work time driving them. It's this simple. Get on the bus. Shut the fuck up. Get off the bus. If a kid can't do that he's inferior to a dog and doesn't need regular school. Go to a dog trainer or whatever and bring your bitch mother.

If you want to be a different fish, you've got to jump out of the school.

Jeez.... WTF? Why so much hostility towards kids? How is dealing with people from a place of unmitigated anger and contempt going to change anything?

I do recall my great grandmother saying "you can't be nice to kids these days" I don't know what to say about that.

The driver's job isn't to be some authority figure "settings things straight". He's expected to do his goddamn job, even while under stress. If he can't do that, he shouldn't even have signed up for the job. If you honestly think it's the kids' fault for him failing to do his job because noone under any job choice should eeeeeeveeeer have to put up with anything outside their comfort zone ever, you're delusional. Also comparing kids to dogs makes you sound like a cunt.

In short, fuck him. It's not the kids' fault.

TRIGGER WARNING: THIS TRIGGER WARNING CONTAINS TRIGGER WARNINGS!

Dear Tumblrites: Despite your wrongly self-diagnosed PTSD, no line of scientific evidence suggests people can be triggered over the internet. Triggering works through the senses (i.e. smell, taste, touch, vision, hearing.) but it goes through real time; if you're not experiencing it in real life as it's ACTUALLY HAPPENING in your ACTUAL life, you CANNOT be triggered. The only exception to this is if you have a seizure, but then again, that's triggered by epilepsy (i.e. rapidly-changing flashing lights) NOT PTSD. Remembering a bad incident is NOT the same thing as having a flashback. When you remember, you think; when you flashback, you feel.
