RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

The Perfect Pizza and its component
Hmm, Okay I have a satisfaction and love for pizza, since I've been eating it since I was a little child, but there's certainly such thing as a bad pizza. What you want in a pizza is completely up to your own personal taste preference. I've once tried the best pizza I probably ever had in my life one time, when the pizza was just perfectly balanced. I think there needs to be a good component of cheese, sauce, and toppings and texture in order to have a satisfying experience. So something that's really gooey and almost liquid like, with a crunchy crust and soft bread interior. So square pizzas are good, or thin crust pizza. But a bad pizza would be hard crust, virtually no tomato sauce, stringy mozzarella on top . I would like to call those kind of pizzas, cardboard pizza. Because it tastes like cheese on hard bread. So people like to make pizza using bread kind of dough apparently. I should probably go to the cities like camden, detroit, chicago, newark to get good pizza tasting experience.

RE: The Perfect Pizza and its component
If you want good pizza, go to New Haven, CT.
There is nothing in the world like Sally's Apizza. The classic all tomato pie is completely earth-changing.
Pepe's Pizza is what pizza aspires to someday be. Every aspect of that pizza is perfect, from the cheese to the dough. It's a slice of heaven if you don't mind an hour long wait to get in.
Modern Pizza is the culmination of New Haven pizza culture. The white clam pizza is sinful, the Italian bomb is meaty heaven. Sometimes top ten pizza lists don't include modern because they feel New Haven pizza is already overlisted but it's worth driving across the country for.
Bar Pizza is never on a top 10 list and rarely on a top 50 list even, but the mashed potato bacon white pizza is a craving you never knew you had.

There's a restaurant chain in my city that serves, among other things, thin crust pizzas.
While they're not spectacular in general, as thin crusts go, they have a special variety with hot sauce in place of the usual tomato, topped with chicken and a bit of ranch dressing. Now that is a pizza.

RE: The Perfect Pizza and its component
Basically...if there is a sizeable italian population in an area, there will be pizza.
Some exceptions since pizza has become americanized, but I still think the best pizzas are often made by italians.
Kinda like chinese food. I dont know of any chinese restaurants that even have a non-chinese cook. I also know that some states brutally lack sufficient chinese restaurants.

RE: The Perfect Pizza and its component
I love pizza.
As it happens, NYC is well-known for its pizza, though it does vary between restaurants.
One thing about NYC is that most establishments sell pizza-by-the-slice. How common is that elsewhere? I know the big chains tend not to offer that.
(Read more: New York-style pizza )
And deep-dish pizza, I remember that from my time living near Chicago.... it's a popular style there.

If we had a small SS meetup at a pizza place in New Haven, would you go? I bet we could get a couple people to show up if it was planned effectively.
NYC might be better, but I'm curious to see new places, as well.

Actually I think that's the kind of pizza style we have in northern new jersey, not to sure about the jersey shore part, but that's actually the kind of style I'm most familiar with, though not a big fan of it due to the lightness of the tomato sauce and the crust is rather hard and chewy.
also I didn't know slice by slice was a jersey and new york thing. Its just something I grew up with.

I live in a suburb of Scranton and there are 5 pizza places within walking distance of my house
It's basically like a square pizza with puffy crust, the cheese has a little bit of american cheese mixed in so it's gooey and sticks to the top of your mouth. The sauce is usually a little bit sweet and oniony, but not always.

Goddamnit, I wish I could eat at a pizza place not controlled by fast food marketers, but unfortunately, my parents won't listen to my pleads. "Oh, PizzaHut is better because it's well-known!" Bullshit. They haven't even tried half of the pizza restaurants in town.

And speaking of Pizza restraunts, I'm not really a fan of Pizza Hut, Domimoes is okay, but I recommend that you guys try Papa Johns if you have one in your town.
In my town there is this one pizzeria called Donte's Pizza that serves really good pizza. The slices are really thin, but they are really big.
And if you guys find yourself in Lubbock TX, try One Guy from Italy Pizza or Orlando's. OGFI is actually run by a guy from Italy and the pizza there is just some of the best I ever had. It's really popular with the TX Tech students, considering that it's right across the street from TX Tech. Orlando's is really more of a generic Italian restraunt. The pizza slices are more like classic pizza (a mix of New York and Chicago style) but the pizza is worth mentioning
