RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

Screen Time and shit like that.
When I was a kid I was really into the internet and the computer and as a kid I was really curious. It kinda was my way to get away from the world and I always spend countless hours onto it. Is computer harmful for me I still have my doubts when people say its okay for kids to not limit their screen time or television. My parents limited my screen time yet they watch shit tons of TV themselves.

RE: Screen Time and shit like that.
My mother always gave me limits, though I never stuck to em when she wasnt around.
With all that information to access, I see no reason to limit myself. I get the same problem when I walk into a library. Captivated with a total lose of the ability to track time. Since I only use when Im bored or otherwise not occupied, I dont find it an issue. Its not like I never leave the house or get nothing done (unlike my sister who is glued to her phone and laptop from wake to sleep, groaning about having to do a basic chore and never leaving the house for pretty much anything except when absolutely necessary like school). I also dont lose focus (I can keep track of a movie on tablet while playing a game on pc while watching a show on TV and conducting a conversation as I drink my tea. Some call it overload...but I feel like Im idling when I dont get degree of tasking). My sister wont hear what you say when you're standing only a foot away.
It all depends on whether you're addicted to it like a crack addict who'd lick it off the floor like some pathetic worm, or just doing the most practical thing at your off times. If its computer, then so be it. I wouldnt recommend TV, I honestly use media as fillers to provide sound and some degree of entertainment while doing other stuff.

Since my mother hasn't been able to come up with a reason for why I shouldn't, I've pretty much had the freedom to use as I will for the last 2-3 years.
And being an "adult" she no longer can't do anything about it.

It seems like your sister has internet or gaming compulsion. Using video games and the internet to get away from the boring mundane life. That's pretty much the same problem with me. The internet or video games aren't inherently bad, in fact there quite the opposite, but if a person spends their hours glued in to the internet has an unmet need in their life.

She's addicted to shit like buzzfeed, vine and whatever else addicted folk use. It's so damn annoying because once upon a time, before getting a smartphone, she'd at least do her chores on time. Now she doesn't do em, and bitches about it when I try to get her to do it. And always complains about being busy despite spending hours sitting on the couch with her phone.

Always dem little ones.
And I don't think the whole "girls mature faster" thing applied to my sister. She's 16 yet refuses to mature. Then again I blame my parents for pampering her excessively.

Screen Time and shit like that.
Take her phone away and threaten to put it in the toilet unless she does what you want.
And tell her: "Don't come crying to me for money when you blew it all on a $600 phone when we are adults"

Missile the whole entire point of school survival is give freedom and rights towards youth, and to not be upon by the authorities. To be treated with the same understanding as adults.

Well know that you add that in maybe it's simply, because shes bored or have nothing else interesting else to do?

I was talking about Brainiac's sister
I would do the exact same thing to my siblings, and my parents, if they just bum out on their phones and then bitch about "being busy" if they have to do something trivial chore

And is there anything wrong with that? Video games and the internet are quite submissive and does require mental energy. You em phasing the word being "being busy" implies that you think being busy on the internet is not a valid excuse.

RE: Screen Time and shit like that.
Watching idiots on Vine is not the same as researching national strategic policy or the technical specification of various firearms.
Nor does the inernet frequently trump maintaining the household. If you want to wallow in a filthy house while being busy browsing the web or playing games, get your own home. Household maintaince comes first. The internet or game wont feed you, wont satiate your thirst, wont clean the filth, wont wipe your ass. Thus priority lays in the house.
Unless whatever your doing online is meant to be productive...though even then if it can be paused or delayed without harm, the chores take priority because they an often not be delayed. Dirty dishes pile, trash fills, floors get dirty, rooms become messy.
