RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

what is it like knowing you're literally a demon

Autism is a medical label fluke used by the world governments and society to pacify demonic possession.

Autistic kids/people have very obvious traits and anyone will know an autistic child when seeing one.

You can literally feel it in their presence a heaviness and darkness while in their presence that cannot be ignored

The fact is this; a truly Autistic child/person has the same symptoms of demonic possession as in:

Lewd behavior as in exposing one's self and imitating sexual acts with no prior knowledge of these things

Violence, be it self inflicted or towards others

They will excrement on themselves and let loose their bladder at any time or place and also play with the waste, they seem to like having the bodily waste on their person

They spit

They have animalistic traits like sniffing, and licking

They will eat anything including old food and garbage if it has a smell that attracts them to it

They will scream without end at times, and in a loud howl-like inhuman screaming sound that can shatter anyones nerves overtime

They keep up constant noise vocally or with objects to bring confusion to where ever they are

They bite themselves and others

They strike or attempt to choke others

Pain really doesn’t affect them

They speak a strange language and they actually can communicate between each other

They are extremely strong when in a rage

As children they can over power an adult when having the fits of rage

They don't like the Name of Jesus and they will always be put under control by His name

They are selfish, mean spirited, and dominate people

They show no signs of guilt when doing wrong

what is it like knowing you're literally a demon

I know the feeling. I have a lower form of autism, but I used to hate myself for it. The amount of social stigma caused by it has caused me to become almost ENTIRELY independent. For reasons that I won't get to, I hate people because of it. I had to pretend to be somebody else so I wouldn't get ridiculed. Now I pretty much have a "fuck it" attitude since it was basically me against the world. I've learned to cope with my autism and enjoy it along with my friends.

But, seriously, out of all the neurological "disorders" autism gets primarily the most bad rap. Especially with bullshit organizations such as Autism Speaks, the general public hates people with autism. We get MURDERED for having something we can't control. Honestly, if I wanted "help" I would accept it from someone with a similar condition. IF we want to improve how autistics are treated in society, we need to have a greater understanding of it, stop organizations like Autism Speaks, and be able to understand what its like to be Autistic.

It's also important to make sure people who don't want to live productive lives and use Autism as a scapegoat do not become the image of autism (as they have on communities like 4Chan.)

Gwedin, what's with using the word demon here... Not to mention listing features of severe low-functioning autism as if they all apply to everyone with autism?

Anyone else see something off about the OP?

Yeah, I had in mind moving it to Random, too... but then it started generating some discussion.

It's not about hating you... it's about what's appropriate where.

The Psychology subforum is intended to be for serious discussion, as well as being a supportive space, not for semi-troll posts.

The fact that a text like what you posted was written and is apparently being copied around the Internet counts as a legitimate topic of discussion, but the post itself is obviously questionable...

So that gets into the broader discussion of autism, diverse learners, and differences among people in general. Anyone want to explain what Autism Speaks is, what the problem is with it... and what's needed instead?

Autism Speaks... My family does a walk to that every year. I don't like them, but they do it for me in spite of me not supporting them.

The problem is that they treat autism as either a problem or something to be dealt with. They encourage pity rather than support and understanding. They're really quick to say that there's an "Autism Epidemic" and stuff like that.

what is it like knowing you're literally a demon

I see. I remember that whole thread, and actually thought about linking it here (it fits very well.)

I'll have to research Autism Speaks a bit more, but I get it.

I think part of the issue is that there are two distinct (though overlapping) issues:

One is truly debilitating, lower-functioning autism, or even seriously problematic symptoms that even a higher-function person would like to "cure." There's the question of where that comes from, and what might be done about it.

But there's also the aspect of autism -- like other mental conditions -- as also being bona fide differences that do actually have advantages. Same with ADHD and other kinds of things. Part of it is, people differ, and it's worth understanding and respecting those differences, and helping people find ways to apply those differences to their paths and places in the world.

I'll link one of the items I linked in that prior thread about autism, Temple Grandin explaining the benefits of other kinds of minds:

Watch on YouTube

And, along somewhat overlapping lines, here's a talk about how ADHD can be seen as a difference of cognition, not just a disorder:

Watch on YouTube

Thoughts on those?

Gwedin, this is actually a useful thread because it's sadly a realistic portrayal of people with spectrum disorders (I like how my concept movement is starting). Autistic people are basically the new blacks of American society.

I'm just going to say it: I'm really fucking tired of being treated like I'm some fucking inferior that needs to be talked down to or guided. I'm tired of my way of learning being labelled as "wrong" while the system tries to integrate me with an army of mindless bored cell phone texting students. I'm tired of organizations like Autism Speaks making me look like I'm some kind of fucking robot when in reality I'm a lot higher functioning than even "normal" neurotypical people.

I just don't give a fuck. One day we'll have our own moment. I know we will.

Autism is a pattern of thinking, behaviors, brain chemistry, brain anatomy, genetics, and other factors. Just because you don't like the way something is labelled doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

Yes autism exists but it's not really a "disorder", more of a different way of being.

TRIGGER WARNING: THIS TRIGGER WARNING CONTAINS TRIGGER WARNINGS!

Dear Tumblrites: Despite your wrongly self-diagnosed PTSD, no line of scientific evidence suggests people can be triggered over the internet. Triggering works through the senses (i.e. smell, taste, touch, vision, hearing.) but it goes through real time; if you're not experiencing it in real life as it's ACTUALLY HAPPENING in your ACTUAL life, you CANNOT be triggered. The only exception to this is if you have a seizure, but then again, that's triggered by epilepsy (i.e. rapidly-changing flashing lights) NOT PTSD. Remembering a bad incident is NOT the same thing as having a flashback. When you remember, you think; when you flashback, you feel.
