RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

Hansgrohe, you're right that beefs are killing SS, but it's hard to get over beefs if a certain someone splits every "un constructive" post. Personally I support the concept of making school uncompulsory, but some things that have been said and done shouldn't stay unaddressed, like
the constant thread splitting and presumptious behavior

[split] The School Survival Movement: Abolish Compulsory Schooling
wow that was quick, I made that as non-aggressive as possible, heck I even said I supported non-compulsory schooling.(which is true...)
Literally the only things I can remember thinking might be slightly pushing a few buttons were "a certain someone"," constant"," and "presumptuous behavior".
It must have been that quote that got it split, but honestly
if anyone is the " heart of SS",that's got to be xcriteria, he's been posting interesting, informative, and helpful things here as long as I can remember, SirMarty hasn't been around most of this forum for that long, I remember at some point he said for a long time he had only looked at School Talk and Venting.
I suppose I'll need to tiptoe very, very, carefully if I want to ever confront someone without getting split within 2 hours of posting...
EDIT:exact quote I meant to use is "DoA and I felt that we are the heart of this forum "
I'd like to hear a justification for this split, as i in no way see how i was trolling, attacking, or doing anything else that deserves a thread split. SirMarty in his movement for getting rid of compulsory schooling seems to be arguing for choice and essentially students deserving an educational institution that they would choose to go to because it can justify itself with logic of some sort.
Why then, does this post split not deserve a logical explanation?

Vhy was this split I dunt know.
At least when I split Gwedin's gif, it's because I was a faggot.
Srsly, step 1=can't moderate threads you create due to conflict of interest. This is just more evidence.

[split] The School Survival Movement: Abolish Compulsory Schooling
It's worth noting that new people visit the site every day. A lot of them doing visit or join the forums... but from the site survey, there are a lot more people out there who aren't happy with school.
The question I'm asking is, what can we actually do about this?
Student Support Network and Student Voice are starting to get some momentum. If anyone wants to get involved in the conversations, let me know. A big goal is to actually helps students talk to their parents and teachers and show everyone what's wrong with school-as-usual and how education can be done in much better ways.
Maybe a network of outside support could help with that for some people stuck in school...
SS is definitely more than the core people on the forums... and I think if we produce some results, more students will be interested in becoming part of a community and network.
What do you think?

To be honest, this rampant thread splitting is just something that is showing to me that the Forum helpers are just a failed experiment, good in theory, but bad in practice. Then again even the Moderators and Admins aren't doing a good job.
Pretty Much my only signature...I'm mainly a lurker....you can find me on the IRC (or on DnE and their IRC).
