To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

The Newark Unified School District gave a written reprimand to Newark High School teacher Krista Hodges, who tweeted between April and June that she wanted to stab and pour coffee on some of her students, according to the Oakland Tribune (http://bit.ly/1Cb0beT).
In one tweet she said some students "make my trigger finger itchy."
Interim Superintendent Tim Irwin says he consulted state education law, the Newark school board's policy and the teacher's union contract before disciplining Hodges.
Newark police are also investigating.
Hodges, who continues to teach at the school, says she deeply regrets sending the tweets and never expected anybody would take her seriously.
She has since deleted her account.
Seriously, WTF? She still continues to teach. She received disciplinary action, but threatening that you want to stab your own students? Why is she still teaching in a school yet when she says she hates students and wants to kill them?

Interesting. It's disturbing, but it's also a good example of something that could be the start of dialogue between the teacher and her students -- even public dialogue. But instead, it's likely to be swept away because the focus will be on her keeping her job vs. pressure for her to lose it.
Meanwhile, a lot of teachers probably feel similar frustration, and that's not part of very much active dialogue.
In the end, teachers are people, just like students. Certainly not all students or teachers (or anyone else) would post tweets like this -- but the underlying why is worth exploring in more depth than just "punishment vs. letting people go" approaches.
The worst part is that students are stuck, in many cases, in schools where everyone is expected to fit into cookie-cutter roles. If a teacher, or a student, is unhappy, why aren't there better supports in place to help them find solutions... including possible finding a better-fitting job?

It's one thing to say you hate teaching—another one of those "I hate my job" statements.  But it's another thing to want to do physical damage to students; wouldn't you consider it a dangerous learning environment if your kid's teacher wanted to stab students?
