RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Hello, traveler.

This is an ancient account I have not used in a long time. My views have changed much in the intervening months and years.

Nonetheless, I refuse to clean it up. Pretending that I've held my current views since the beginning of time is what we in the industry call a lie. Asking people to do so contributes to moralistic self-loathing. "See, those people have nothing damning! I do! I'm truly vile!"

Because you can never be a good person with a single blemish on the moral record, I thought that simply entertaining some thoughts made me irredeemable. Though I don't care for his writing style, William Faulkner presents a good counterexample. He went from being a typical Southern racist to supporting the civil rights movement. These days we'd yell at him for that, probably.

People are allowed to change their views.

Nevertheless, this period of my life has informed some of how I am today. In good ways and bad ways. To purge it would be to do a disservice to history. Perhaps it will not make anyone sympathetic, but it may help someone understand.

If, after reading all this, you still decide to use the post above as evidence that I am evil today, ask yourself if you have never disagreed with the moral code you now follow. In all likelihood you did, at some point. If some questions are verboten, and the answer is "how dare you ask that," don't expect your ideological opponents to ever change their minds.

I love you like I love no one else. You and your perfectly neutral toaster. I like your username as well, one doesn't read the writing on the wall in mechanical pencil. It's big and bold, multicolored and prone to smudging. You are unusually similar, I do imagine.

I think with enough condoms properly positioned, or a large enough condom....it should be possible?

I like the way small words can express capital B, Big concepts. Foreplay is expected to account for so much, those light kisses behind her ear, the usually tickling touch on the small of his back. You get the idea.

But what makes "foreplay" specific is that it happens before sex, and I sort of re-purposed the word "foreplay" to mean more like the word "precursor"

"Ink" can be used as a verb, "to ink" and I like the idea of changing its stem while keeping the idiom meaning.

My whole idea was to make something feel similar to "life is an STD" in that the wording feels unique and the connotation is sarcastically true. I currently am the precursor to what I write. Heck, I always am. My whole life is the foreplay in ink, and perhaps that is abit sexual?

I don't have any spiritual or religious views to speak of. When I was younger I was told to be jewish and that didn't feel right. I think that I believe that I exist in some way, and so my meaning of life has to test the boundaries of my own existence.

My meaning of life is to feel as much as possible, so that I can sketch the outline of what it means for me to be alive.

On one hand we have the living, breathing, holy shit is that a bear, black to the white PANADA...They sneeze, they feel and tumble, and hey they aren't that great at having sex. I think we connect to animals because they avoid simplicity, they are more than their eating habits and physical restrictions. I can identify with that.

Muffins on the other hand are insane. Lets just take a step back and try to ponder the sheer ridiculous course of fate that ultimately resulted in the insanity that is a muffin. We had to take this inedible useless plant like grain, or wheat.....crush it into flour which was still inedible so why are we still messing with it? Mix it with unborn chickens and the lactation of cows. Oh and if we want it to taste any good we need some of that lactation to ferment into butter. And then after all that, we need to cook it evenly on all sides distributing heat in time consuming individual serving sized molds.

Like what? Why would humanity ever decide that muffins are a good idea? I've gotta side with the Panda. At least they have some method to their madness.

Quote:Do you love yourself?
It's a tango of passion really. Sometimes when I get the phrasing just right I fall so fast that the world implodes around me. Right now though, it tastes sour and I regret letting myself go to second base.

Quote:At this very moment, what is your strongest desire?
The power went out an hour ago and my house feels like some murky swamp, all I could ever want is a fan facing me and some cold cream soda.

Quote:What is love?
Baby don't hurt me. I can't put my finger on it really, perhaps its the end goal of passion? The final frontier of imagination. I could be playing it up, it probably just has something to do with hope.

Quote:Why is love both painful and beautiful?
Loving something is resigning yourself to let it hurt you. And isn't that just perfect?

Quote:How fast is my ceiling fan spinning right now?
Faster then the speed of smell! I love ceiling fans because they imitates weather, in that it comes from above. Too few things come from above, and often that which does is far less convenient than a steady breeze.

Quote:Do you enjoy where you live?
It's remote enough to have wildlife and connected enough to let me be in the city in two episodes of True Detective. I think it's the pinnacle of suburbia, the ceiling fan of painful love and momentary desire. Also, it smells nice.

I sometimes wonder that myself. My last blogpost was on this subject but different mood, different outlook. I think maybe we see the potential for what life could be? Because we can fathom outcomes so absurdly great, it's worth the gamble to move forward?

I was thinking the other day how unfortunate it is that I couldn't be born a hundred years from now so that I could waste my life on the video games of tomorrow.

Never a dull moment when you are clinging to unsure realities. There was a scene in an episode of Louie where his daughters are in the backseat of the car during a long road trip. They say, "daddy I'm bored!" and Louie comically replies that, "you aren't allowed to be bored, there is literally everything else in the world that you still haven't done" or something like that...

I like that. I like looking at the world as a never ending puzzle, where having to do a boring assignment is like exploring an ancient ruin. It's not true though, not everywhere light touches is color.

The more immediate branches of my family came to this country from eastern europe where we had a very different last name. It would probably be spelled something like "Wattmen". Upon immigrating to this country it was difficult for my grandparents to pronounce their names to an American immigration worker and the resulting pronunciation sounded something like "Vaught-mein"...

Whats interesting is that many other peoples of Jewish decent with the surname Wattmen or Wattman ended up with the last name Vatman in other countries as well. We are of broken lineages, born of mispronunciations.
