RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

I mean, I already know my thoughts on what Korsch wrote, and honestly I think he underestimated his own tendency.

If I don't answer a question within the first few hours of it being asked, I'm doing research on the subject. In this case, I am currently reading Althurusser's Essays in Self-Criticism. I'll get back to you shortly.

Just a happy coincidence! Though I don't deal with pulp, I'm more of a filtered juice.

how many trees are required to grow a cloud that has a face and human emotions? Kinda like the clouds in mario games that one motherfucker always flew on, you know that dude with the fishing hook that'd fuck your entire day up in like half a second? Yeah, fuck him and the clouds he flies around on.

I digress.

He wrote in the council communist tradition possibly up to the 30s and maybe 40s, but he was likely an anarchist by the time that he wrote his Ten Theses.

That's the first time I've seen anyone misspell his name like that.

Do you partake in the snorting of meth off the ass cheeks of strippers?

Do you still love me?

Today my dog was snuggling his face into mine, then bit my face suddenly for no reason. What did i do wrong?

Have you offered a goat to the goat god today?

Quote:Thoughts on the Althusserians?
I'm not okay with alltherussians. Absolutes are too simple to be true.

Quote:Was Poulantzas' works really a Marxist response to Michel Foucault as one post in RL pointed out?
In New Left Poulantzas wrote “The economic place of the social agents has a principal role in determining social classes. But from that we cannot conclude that this economic place is sufficient to determine social classes.” I think this is a pretty serious criticism of Marxisim, and while he does seem to build on Althusserians in certain way.. I like to think that Poulanzas was something of a Darwinian socialist. I'm not sure if he was directly responding to Foucault... I think that Poulantzas is simply the begining of heterodox marxisim we saw in the 20th century.

Quote:Was Karl Korsch correct in his Ten Theses on Marxism Today?

I feel as though Korsch could probably have been more accurate in 1950, but is terribly wrong in 2014. We don't even have pseudo-marxism these days. The governments he speaks to today are living in varying forms of aristocracy.

I'm 12,578,917 minutes old, as of this post. I did the math!!!

Quote:how many trees are required to grow a cloud that has a face and human emotions? Kinda like the clouds in mario games that one motherfucker always flew on, you know that dude with the fishing hook that'd fuck your entire day up in like half a second? Yeah, fuck him and the clouds he flies around on.

Do clouds grow on trees? I suppose if you plant the trees in a smiley faced pattern..they would have to be birch trees I'd assume. I actually looked up what was with the cloud turtle thingy and it's name is "Lakitu" and I don't think they appreciate their clouds since they don't name them. I would absolutely name my flying cloud "heavy"

Quote:Favorite pasttime?
I've never liked the pastime saying. It's one of those apathetic little idioms that weaseled its way into language to make it sound as if our passions are just high baring sails that let us flow through time quickly to our next "productive" moment.

To answer your question. I really like to write down ideas. I'll think of something during the day, like, "hey isn't it weird that handsoap is sometimes purple when almost nothing else is?" I keep an idea like that with me all day, and think about it from different angles. And if I still like it at the end of the day, I'll write it down and the different ideas that came to me from it. I feel very accomplished when the words appear in my notepad program. It's why I don't listen to music when I drive, it's already so loud in my car.

Quote:Favorite feeling?
Oh man, when I read or hear something that feels true it is just. It's like gravity, falling. It's absolute and all encompassing. I feel like I'm connected to everything then. I'm doing a bad job of explaining... Nicole Krauss makes me feel that way all the time...a quote from her.

“I was never a man of great ambition
I cried too easily
I didn't have a head for science
Words often failed me
While others prayed I only moved my lips”

Quote:What do you normally wear?
I don't really wear my personality as some do. I wear many solid colored shirts with no logo on them, all very nondescript and appropriate to the climate. My only flare can be seen if your looking closely, I always wear it right there on my sleeve.

I like to think of myself as a depressant personally. I'm kidding, though I very unsecretly wish to be addictive.

I think a drug that doesn't particularly do any harm to a person in it's pure form should be legal. It's use should be up to the imbiber. I do think though, that people need to be aware that if you gain super powers from a radioactive spider... you are accomplishing these heroic feats by virtue of the spider, and it would be foolish to not acknowledge that you may be Spiderman in those situations.

I may have taken the long way around for that one.

Quote:Do you partake in the snorting of meth off the ass cheeks of strippers?
Not yet. I could see myself going down that path running an international banana ring though.

Quote:Do you still love me?
My love is enduring dear reader. I can only exist when you sound out these syllables. Onomatopoeia. Splat.

Quote:Today my dog was snuggling his face into mine, then bit my face suddenly for no reason. What did i do wrong?
I once experienced something similar ordering ice-cream. I waited in line for my two scoop rocky road like a predator, and after a few thoughtfully placed licks, I decided that I had created an architecture that would allow for minimal dripping. The ice-cream man called out to me then which surprised me since I had already walked far past the line of his truck and for some reason my hand tensed and with super human strength I smashed my cone projecting my 1 and 2/3rds of rocky road all over me.

Maybe those stories aren't that similar... but you and I both got a tad too comfortable.

Absolutely, yes. It is because it is so different from sex, anything inefficient and unique just reeks of poetry. I think it smells like spring, awakening.

She said give me that hand please
An itch you can't control
Let me teach you how to handle
All the sadness in your soul
Oh we'll work that silver magic
Then we'll aim it at the wall
She said love may make you blind, kid
But I wouldn't mind at all

I would like to be atop a wooden platform addressing the gathered masses, My voice would echo over them, capturing the moment and settling deep within thee chasms of their minds as I raise my right arm and declare, "If I should be at all mistaken may a blue rabbit strapped with C4 fall from the sky and obliterate me where I stan..... then just as I am about to finish my sentence a red rabbit strapped with C4 falls from the sky obliterating me where I stand.

If they find any splattered pieces of what was once Vatman, I hope they would submerge those pieces of gook in liquid nitrogen and then smash them with a comically sized mallet.

I had forgotten about this post, if there still is any interest -- I'll continue to answer any and all questions!
