RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

Tried to have a (relatively)rational argument with my parents

Quite funny that it'd be about a cat- my 8 m.o. cat, Bastet, to be specific. I argued that she shouldn't be sent out just yet, that she be kept indoors until we got her spayed and microchipped. Their responses?? "Remember all that we did for you and how you repaid us." "It's an animal, let it out." "Doesn't she come back?" "It's a cat, cats don't get lost."

Oh, and just as I was typing this.. "If you ever think your parents are against you, think logically. What would we gain from it?"

If these are their responses to a perfectly rational argument....CuckooHuh

Quote:Remember all that we did for you and how you repaid us.

Yeah..you only ruined my childhood and wasted my time with useless relatives and your friends trying to use me as a trophy to point at and say "But look at her!! She is proof that we're not like our parents!"

Betrayal begets betrayal, bitches.

Quote:It's an animal, let it out.

She is mine and I care about her. It's that simple. Would you leave a child unsupervised on a road? Besides, it's nigh impossible to keep track of a cat indoors, do you think I'd be stupid enough to do it outdoors?

Quote:Doesn't she come back?

Rabid dogs. Vehicles, carrying people who are either suicidal or part of a terrorist conspiracy. Electric lines lying around. And fucking construction work that's going on in our area all year around. For fuck's sake, not even people are safe from this shit in India..Like I said earlier, would you let a child out, unsupervised, in such a place?

Quote:It's a cat, cats don't get lost.

This one just reeks of stupidity.

And, one more while I was typing just now:
Quote:"The world is like a machine. And no machine comes with extra parts."

Can you see why I might think my parents don't want me, but a puppet?

Quote:If you ever think your parents are against you, think logically. What would we gain from it?

Thinking logically...these two want a puppet that jumps when they say jump, based on the fact that they feed it. Disgusting. Can you see why I think my parents are against me, as in, a me that wants freedom and feels suffocated by all this bullshit?

Oh, and just now:
Quote:"Don't feel that you're superior."

In the end, it's just an ego trip, isn't it?

The funniest part was this. Turd would talk to me, then I'd reply. Then he went out of the room to think. He came back in 5 minutes and presented another argument-which was shot down in seconds. Can you guess why I might feel superior to these? Then again, repeat with another argument that's total BS. In a debate, this guy would've been T-boned ten times over. I think that the stuff I gave Turd to read on Satanism (The 9 Statements, 11 Satanic rules of the earth and 9 Satanic sins) didn't emphasize how dangerous this philosophy is to shit eaters.

If a machine didn't come with extra parts, what'd we do when a part breaks?

What would they gain? Family is like government, thus involves politics whether they know it or not. Thus they probably have something to gain whether they know it or not.

What a dumb statement. Seriously, while I wouldn't spay and ESPECIALLY not microchip a cat if I had one, it's your cat, you choose what to do with it, not your parents, not me, not some dude on the internet, not Barack Obama.

Unless OP is above 18 or whatever age it is over there, it's likely the parents legally own the cat anyway. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I turn 18 this July, so me and Bastet only have a few weeks left to wait. I can't bring up the legal age and ownership with them because they still pay for me (Indian family system..Noo)

I am saving money for my cat...as it is, my parents still pay for my food, so might as well take advantage of that.

My obedience is what they'd gain from being against me..but they're still playing dumb to the damage they cause.

A cat that's only ever been indoors all her life so far, should probably be let out gradually... like, only be outside under human supervision until she gets used to it.

But I don't really know much about training cats... they don't seem to like being trained. Razz

Sounds like your parents just don't want to get her spayed or chipped. What does the chip do, actually? Is it like a GPS tracker?

It's basically a tracking device...and, no not like a GPS, but still a tracking device. I think that being able to locate her if she got lost would be a good thing, but my parents probably want my cat to get lost. Fucking anti-life bastards.Noo
