RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Society and how it thinks of Insanity

Why do most people I know think I'm insane? I mean really just define normal. Then you can define insanity. People often look at my actions and think I'm insane. Honestly It pisses me the fuck off. School often treats people that think differently as insane. This causes extroverted thinking which limits individualism to the point where if you think DIFFERENTLY THAN OTHER FUCKING PEOPLE YOU ARE CONSIDERED INSANE.

SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME WHAT THE FUCK DEFINES NORMAL? Society in America often thinks that the individual is insane most of the time. What if it was the society that caused the person to start school shootings? People live in ideas that shun a individual for thinking differently or having different traits. Insanity happens to everyone so while you fucktards are avoiding me secretly I'm laughing while society shuns you for being "insane".

End of rant

Insane != crazy/weird.

Something people get wrong a shit load. The former is bad, the latter is good because everyone will be crazy or weird to soem extent.

Society and how it thinks of Insanity

Insanity is no laughing matter; our mental health system is terrible, and there are real lunatics out there, just as there are mentally tormented individuals who need help for their own sake as well.

To be insane is not the same as to be weird, or crazy, as some have said. People who think differently are not insane; people who act so differently that they explicitly harm other people are. There's a significant difference, and I believe that most people understand this to some degree.

What pisses me off is not how people see insanity, but normality. There is no normal. No one is completely average. Conformity will not make you a better person no matter how hard you or others believe it, and it won't even make you any more "normal" than messed up.

RE: Society and how it thinks of Insanity

I can define normal as having nothing biologically damaging about it and insane/ behaving, thinking or speaking in a way that shows incredibly low wisdom and mental stability

People call me insane.

I just laugh and then seriously cast a spell on them. They'll never know what hit em when I finally master the firebolt. I tried summoning a demon but all I got was a cloud of powder.

Levitation didn't work either.

MUST PRACTICE MY MAGICK!

Course the real "insane" folk are never properly handled. Society is too busy calling "freaks" insane/weird to be able to properly distinguish real insane from "luddite misanthropic hedonist"

It's easier for some folks - school as a HUGE example of this - to simply follow and support the status quo and sneer at anything that's out of the ordinary. Because heaven forbid anything outside their little bubbles comes in and starts to threaten everyone with their "differences". Sigh.

We need to become a society that values everyone that doesn't commit heinous crimes.

Thanks, everyone for your comments. I was just in a bad mood that day, but people should stop making generalizations of people without knowing how their minds work. With all the recent school shootings I believe that school caused the troubled individual to snap and cause the events to happen.

I'm generalized all the time.

I just laugh at those pathetic humans who are incapable of complex thinking. Then I write a million page manifesto in mirror-reverse...in latin...in a random nonsensical fashion.
