Police in School

Ours is called a Prevention Resource Officer, but I call him a rent-a-cop. He arrests (I think under school authority) all the time for offenses as simple as fighting twice. TWICE. BS. When he does drug sweeps he calls in the cops and they search the building. COINCIDENTALLY, there is no announcement. They announce Code Yellow and they close the blinds and doors. They clearly don't want you to know that they are doing a drug sweep.

1) I have a right to know formally (through a manner that is not looking out the window to see 3 cop cars) that there is code yellow because of the sweep; hiding behind their rule will not hide them from the law.

The rule?
"Lockers are school property and are subject to inspection, announced or unannounced."

2)They do not have a right to hide the fact that they are searching, for then the search is made unknowingly, thus unconstitutional.

My state says that you may not remain silent, even when being questioned by a rent-a-cop, about school misconduct. And at my school the rent a cop is usually there when you are being questioned, regardless if you were involved. Seems like an attempt to intimidate them into confessing/snitching.

There are actual legit police officers at my school.

Remember constitutional rights are actually suspended in school. However, if you wish to express your Miranda rights, go for it.

Is he not a police officer? Most schools I've seen and heard of don't use private security, and districts sometimes have dedicated police forces. But maybe not in this case, if he has to call police in for searches -- but maybe this is procedure nonetheless.

Fighting is in most places illegal, so I'm not sure why this is such an upsetting thing that the police intervene. They would do so to any of us nearly anywhere, not only in school, and arrests would be made.

Lockers are the school's property, as they say, and they really don't have to tell you when they're searching them, infuriating as it may be. These locations are compromised for any subversive purposes and it would be best to simply avoid keeping anything there that would cause you trouble.

As for incriminating yourself, might as well stay quiet. What are they going to do about it?
