RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

What do you mean by "releasing to the public"?

Ah!
Well I haven't been on EdFreedom in a while, I'll probably go on tonight and contribute or see what's going on. As long as we have our message and website complete then I don't see why we can't "go live."

We could probably buy advertising on Google and Yahoo.

Dunno 'bout Yahoo, but Google advertising turns out pretty expensive per visitor, especially if you don't really know how to target the right people and stuff.

Perhaps we should make Edfreedom T-Shirts, arm-bands, and/or necklaces.

I don't know if anyone would spend money on that stuff besides us, but I'm all for the shirts/armbands. It'd be nice to have the shirts availible like the SS shirts since they're only printed when someone actually orders them. Why the hell not, right?

What's a good site for getting shirts printed? RedBubble?

I use Zazzle. Some people use Cafepress... I think Zazzle is better though. Don't know anything about any others.

There was a date. We were supposed to be finished preparing the site by November 1st.

Your site's looking nice.

As for spreading the word, maybe we should make a list of popular forums that we could post anti-school stuff to.

Anyone know how to make good videos concerning school?

I doubt we'll be selling stuff anytime soon so I guess it doesn't really matter; I just made that shirt for fun. We'll sell shirts once somebody who actually knows how to design them helps us out.

Oh, and I've come to conclusion that I also can't make flyers for shit, so if anyone wants to try making some...

RE: Releasing edfreedom, but...

With the way society is kept in place, don’t you realize that changing anything about the schooling system would cause everything to fall apart?
Keep grades K-8 the way they are so children learn the fundamental basics. By around high school time, young adults should be able to choose their courses.

-People have different perspective on schooling system and different ideas on how the education system should run as. This should be reminded as coming from the perspective of a individual which may not reflect the entire edfreedom group.

Without mandatory education, won’t child labor still be prevalent?
Child labor laws exist not to protect children but to free up job for adults. Education has nothing to do with it.

-Child labor laws exist solely for the concerns over children doing jobs they're generally physically unable to handle in comparison with other age groups and the development of the brain makes them prone to doing more mistakes than adults although there are adults who tends to have certain problems with labors job. While it is arguable that it depends on the individual, in general, children are not made to do specific labor jobs.

As a note to everyone: whenever you spot a flaw in any of our content, it'd be a good idea to also provide something better. Otherwise we'll be stuck pointing out fallacies with no improvements.

Those answers were from Derchin and Rilian respectively, and until I get something better, they're staying there.

'Cause there's a blue crescent next to our logo.

Have you ordered from there? I'm checking out all the options before we settle down on one, but it's difficult 'cause I don't plan on ordering a shirt from every company. I just don't want some generic print that comes off after one wash.

I've only ever used Redbubble. The quality is the best I've come across, but the prices are in the $20 range.

RE: Releasing edfreedom, but...

Well, it's November, so it's now or never - I think it's about time to "release edfreedom." In order for this movement to start, we have to get off our asses and lead by example. We have 2 months left in 2011. It'd be nice to get some buzz going and start planning some bigger stunts for 2012.

Till this day, I refuse to believe there are less than half a dozen anti-schoolers in each of our schools. Maybe they're in completely different classes from yours, or a separate grade altogether so you've never met them. Either way, we have to find those other students. Shall we consider this our first real assignment? Find the few kids in your school who would not only support us, but physically help the EFO. If we can't even get a couple of random students to join, what hope would we have? I think it's a good/simple 1st test to determine what we're capable of. By 2012, we should have a good idea of what us EFOriginals are capable of based on the amount of new members we get, and feedback on our social sites.

As for how you'll find these students... We should leave that for each of us to decide. Fliers, scouting, gossip, whatever... It doesn't really matter so long as we get more members, members you'll physically know. So let's just be creative as we fuck with the system. Absent's guide should help: http://www.edfreedom.org/content/downloads/?did=1

UPDATE: I also announced this on our Facebook, so how people view us will essentially be based off of this 1st move. It's up to you guys to either impress everyone, or just ignore this and continue doing nothing.
