RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

Fox's Dream Log

I decided to jump on the bandwagon and create a dream log. It prolly will only be rarely updated, but meh.

Aug 19, 2010:

I grabbed a nap in the early afternoon, and had a short but somewhat interesting and weird dream. I dreamed I was on a small rubber raft (apparently called "Tactical Dinghy" in the dream, I don't know why any more than you do) in the middle of the ocean or some shit, and was casually chatting with a few other people (dunno if they were on the same raft or different ones) while drinking a soda. A few seconds later, along with the other people, I started to be carried upwards in the air, with rapidly accelerating speed. Strangely, nothing else, not the rafts, not any water, not our drinks, nothing else was carried. It took me a couple seconds to realize what was happening, and I quickly started to scream expletives, among other things, at a rapid rate.

Within mere seconds I was over 100 feet in the air (around this time the other people seemed to disappear, or I just lost sight of them) and I kept on yelling and screaming, at this point it was just plain screaming out of sheer fear and desperation. The farther up I got, the faster the rate I was being carried got, and about ten-fifteen seconds later I was easily up past 80,000 feet. Another couple seconds past this I was in the stratosphere, and started to shut up and really think (even though I was up super high, it didn't seem to have any effect on my breathing/sight/etc) for a second. I considered alien abduction, teleportation, alternate dimensions, past universes, time paradoxes, all that jazz in mere seconds, by the time I was finished I was in outer space yet could still feel myself being drawn upwards (is it still upwards in outer space?) and I realized (or a least thought) that it was my time, and I thought "Well, at least I'll know what happens when you die". Then everything went white. Then I woke up.

Dreams are amazing aren't they?

Sometimes dreams make more sense than life in todays society.

Re: Fox's Dream Log

This one I had on vacation.

I dreamed I was in a desert, with a couple people around me. A rattlesnake appeared outta nowhere and bit me in the hand. The fangs went clean through my hand, but I didn't feel any pain and said calmly to get help. I looked back at the other people, then back. The snake was gone. I was then riding in a Jeep Cherokee on a desolate highway in presumably the same desert. Then my mind went off to something else.

Re: Fox's Dream Log

9/17/10: I just caught a short snooze, and had a really interesting dream. It's funny, I apparently just fell asleep, and I don't even recall being tired, or wanting to go to sleep.

I start out rendezvousing with two other people at an overlook of some sorts. We were meeting up as if we were in some sort of military operation, with a challenge and reply, and with the other people rising out of the foliage like in the movies. Despite this, we appear to be getting ready to go on some sort of hike that has no military connection or real reason to be all stealthy and everything, as we all have civilian packs on, long pants, boots, etc. I'm wearing some random T-shirt, my Flecktarn camouflage jacket over that (you'd be hard-pressed not to find me wearin' it in the fall), blue jeans, my black waterproof boots, my black gloves with the fingertips cut off, and my desert camouflage Army-issue pack my cousin (the one who killed himself) gave me a few years ago. (I don't know why I remember what I was wearing, but I apparently do.) It's the fall, and the temperature appears to be in the low-mid 50's. It's cloudy as well. Basically, the weather is very similar to how it is here today. I dog paddle through a pool of water a couple feet deep in a depression in some rock for some reason (this is basically as we're rendezvousing), and we enjoy the view at the overlook before heading down a small path.

There's a good sized field/whatever the hell you want to call it (100 acres? 115? Probably more) ahead of us, with forests all around. What appears to be a small town or something is right in the middle. We walk by a low chain-link fence (on our left side), and there appears to be a public park or elementary school or something behind the fence. There are a bunch of kids playing around and whatnot in the area. We keep walking. Before long, we reach a bunch of small shops (like what one would find in a market district (or "Strip District", as we call it here) in a city) with butchers and the likes in these open-air stores. Mostly everyone seems to know each other, and it has a small-town kind of ambiance.

We see a gate and a path leading into the aforementioned park or whatever it was. There's an old rusty faded metal sign (dated 1993) right inside the gate that has some sort of warning or public notice on it, I think about some sort of criminal or general risk. I pause to check it out, and one of the people I'm going with says something to us, we seem to disapprove of the idea, but he opens/climbs over the gate and starts dicking around with the sign (I forget exactly what he was doing). Two teenage girls come up to him and start arguing with him, and he gets mildly pissed, knocking the sign off one of its screws (causing it to hang at an angle) before he comes back and we return on.

This is the most interesting and confusing part of the dream. We're (still) on the path-street-whatever, seemingly not that far down from where we were before, still with the little farmer shops and whatnot. All of a sudden, we see an enormous explosion on the horizon, and a mushroom cloud starts to rise, all cinematic-y. Everyone around us says "My god" and things of that manner, and someone says "It's started". I briefly wonder "What's started, and why does this person seemingly know what it's about?" before yelling "Jesus H. Christ, that's a nuke!". A couple seconds after, we see the shockwave coming towards us, and I yell at the top of my lungs "GET DOWN! EVERYONE GET DOWN! FIND SOME COVER!" I'm left in the open somehow (I don't recall being in the open when the nuke hit), so I just run for the nearest building, and leap towards it just as the shockwave hits us (again, all movie-like). My ears are ringing, and I hear noises like voices and structures collapsing. Then everything went white. Then I woke up.

Re: Fox's Dream Log

I had this one last night.

Me, my mom, and my oldest sister were going to a movie or something, and we parked at the back of a ridiculously large parking lot, for some reason. As we walked towards the movie theater, we ran into a huge-ass protest by right-wing nutjobs/teabaggers, with their signs that said "Obama is the next Stalin" "Socialism is the next Holocaust" "Communism goes against God" and whatnot, all of course insane. Right before we were about to enter, I saw some sign that brought me to the brink of laughter, but I regained my composure so this hick wouldn't punch me in the face, or spew out even more bullshit.

Soon after I remarked to my sister "I should have worn my Lenin t-shirt" (I don't own anything even close to a Lenin t-shirt, though it would be epic to have). My mom said "Lennon?" and then pointed to a strangely convenient newspaper article about John Lennon, and I said "No, Lenin." Then some teabagger ran up to me, called me a commie, and tried to punch me. I pulled out my nightstick (don't even remember having it until then), dodged a punch and beat him up, and then a bunch more conservative radicals arrived, and I started to kick their asses all Matrix-style. Then the USSR anthem by the Red Army Choir started to play while all this was happening. Then I woke up.

Re: Fox's Dream Log

11/27/10:

I was driving with my dad in a car across some large, grassy fields which would go up into small, shallow hills. We were apparently looking for some sort of landmark, or something, and I guess had been driving for a long time. I suggested that we turn back, and he said that if we didn't see whatever it was we were looking for over the next hill, we could go back. I agreed. As soon as we cleared the top, we saw a huge crack in the ground (a la the big ass crack in the ground in STALKER Call of Pripyat, but noticeably bigger and wider). I yelled out for him to stop, but the car slid into it. I heard my dad say "Oh shit" almost under his breath, and I was going to say something, but choked on my words. Then just as the car hit the bottom of the crevasse, everything went white. Then I woke up.

Re: Fox's Dream Log

2/10/11:

I was on a field trip or something with some members from SS, and we were seeing a gravestone-shaped rock that was above a giant crevasse (that itself was in a giant canyon), that all presidents signed, or something like that. Then we went to this long table in the same area as the crevasse thing and ate some food. Halfway through eating most of the, I'll say SS regulars went into a different area, including me. I had to jump across a gap (easily high enough to kill me ten times over from the fall, yet I wasn't fazed at all for some reason) and was about to walk over and talk to someone (think it was Rebelnerd, I know I intended on talking to Soul as well). Then I woke up.

You seem to die pretty often in your dreams for some reason.
Pretty entertaining stuff though.

Pretty much, lol. I don't really think about death that much, so I dunno why whenever I have memorable dreams dying in a sudden and often slightly dramatic way seems to be a bit of a recurring theme. Like ya said though, it sure makes for interesting dreams.

Re: Fox's Dream Log

First post in almost two months.

Was talking with a few people about something in a fairly small, perfectly square room that had white walls and no windows or doors. Everyone, including me, was acting normal instead of freaking out that we were trapped in some small, asylum-like room. Someone told me to "look at my tail" or something like that (a real lolwut moment), and I don't remember anything else that happened during that dream.

In the other one (both of these dreams I had last night) I was in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat, the sawmill in the Zaton region to be more specific (if you really want to know just go here). There were only a couple zombie stalkers, and I was up on the hill, in the actual sawmill part. I think I was just being a regular stalker, and I remember, quite clearly, being armed with an AKS-74U (even though I almost never use it in-game). Was walking through the main "sawing" building, which is shaped a little bit like a barn, with a high roof, lots of room, and two main entrances at either end. I walked through the building casually, and when I went out the back, I heard voices. Got down low, hid behind the doorway that I went out of, as I heard that the people were walking in the building. They stopped about halfway through, looking around. They didn't seem to be hostile. Whatever head/eyewear I was wearing fucked up, I went temporarily blind, or something else that reduced my visibility to near-zero, and mentally freaked the fuck out for a second. I jumped around the corner (despite being blind or whatever, it was one stupid decision) and yelled at them "What faction? What faction are you?". They said something to me (don't remember what), and then one of them shot me in the face with his shotgun (interestingly enough, for some reason I remember the sound being from the Mossberg 88). Sometime later I remember regaining consciousness (lol survived a shotgun blast to the head) and having a friendly stalker help me up. Sadly, I don't remember anything after that.

Re: Fox's Dream Log

This one isn't that interesting, but still.

Was taking apart my MP5 to take a look at the internals of it, the semi auto is screwy, again, and I for some reason knew exactly what I was doing, or at least seemed to (I don't know much of anything about disassembling AEGs, even though I really want to get around to learning about it, so it was kinda weird how I was doing it without any trouble). I taped something in place with electrical tape (lol), hooked up a battery, and tried the semi, but it still shot on full auto. I tried adjusting some sort of gear, and it worked. I felt like a fucking genius for a second, probably because in the dream I had just stripped down my MP5 perfectly without any knowledge of how to do so and then fixed the problem.

Re: Fox's Dream Log

Another S.T.A.L.K.E.R. dream last night. I was with three other stalkers, and we were walking along a road in the zone, geared up for a long outing, since we were heading north into Pripyat. I was taking point, and we were ambushed by a couple people, don't remember who or why. Sliding down off the road and down a slope, we took cover in the trees and returned fire. Two of our guys went down, and I saw the last enemy stand up, and shot him in the torso with my G36k. The other remaining stalker (old-ish guy, around 40) told me we should get moving, and I didn't say anything and went with him.

We reached a checkpoint right before Pripyat, I think it was a military checkpoint but I don't remember. Instead of shooting on sight or warning us to go back, they let us go through for some reason. Rather disappointingly, as soon as we reached the outskirts of Pripyat the dream ended.

RE: Fox's Dream Log

Bump. I had this one on Saturday night when I was at my dad's place, and I feel a little backstory for it is in order: Due to having a shit day (was cold and rainy too, but I kinda liked that), I went for a walk along this little path that goes along a stream through the woods for a couple hours while listening to Sabaton w/ headphones on my PSP. Soon after returning to his house I fell asleep and slept for about 13 hours, which is when I had the dream.

I was walking along the same path, wearing the same clothes (cargo pants and my Bundeswehr jacket - in other words what I always wear), in the same PO'd mood, same cold and wet weather, everything. I was about halfway along the trail, in an area insanely thick with brush off the path. I paused my music when some branches rustled and shook back and forth off to the side, but after stopping to listen and look for a good two-three minutes there was nothing, so I resumed my music and walking.

About five minutes later I came out in a clearing that isn't really a clearing; it's basically an open space for drainage pipes that has a bunch of brush in the center, and the path splits into two and loops around either side before coming together again.

Anyway, I came out from the woods and was at the edge of the clearing, when some bushes and shit started moving around at the opposite end. I stopped and waited again, and this time something large, quadruped, and brown came out. At first I thought it was a deer, then noticed it was a canine, looked like some sort of big dog, then as it started running at me I saw that it was a coyote. I quickly noticed he was pissed, growling and barking at me as it ran like I had stolen his pups or something. Predictably, once the distance was closed he lunged, and despite my best efforts to dodge several dozen pounds of pissed-off feral canid was on top of me. I was able to hold him off for a bit, barely keeping him from turning my face into ground beef chuck while at the same time trying to find some sort of leverage to get him the fuck off me.

Then something really weird happened. My hands holding his head back slipped, seeing how they were soaking wet, covered with mud, and trying to hold back a fucking predator. Time seemed to slow down as he went for my throat, but just as his jaws started to close around it, he just faded away. I was dirty, tired, and bleeding, but didn't really care and just laid back to catch my breath. As I did so, I remember looking up to see some sort of black and gray figure, vaguely humanoid but with some animal features, walking down the path at the opposite end of the clearing towards me. I then felt lightheaded, passed out, and woke up.

Shit was weird.

RE: Fox's Dream Log

Last night I dreamed that I was doing some sort of Russian dance on the second floor of a bombed-out building in the dead of winter, with these guys dressed in fur coats or some shit running in and out of the building below me. After finishing that I went downstairs into a perfectly conditioned kitchen, and vomited in the sink. I then woke up to find myself drooling on the pillow.
