RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

The Gwedin/Sub Law: Any music/band that one party listed likes, the other must hate. Nothing but pure disgust can be recived from each other's music. Only exceptions are some metal (Repo! The Genetic Opera, Nightwish, etc.) Exceptions also include Emilie Autumn. (4/31)
AKA: This is the thread where Gwedin and I torture ourselves with each others music to see if we can find anything else we both like. I'll start:

"free speech under the constitution only guarantees the government won't stop him saying it and does not guarantee his right to say things and have no consequences at all as a result. also i completely doubt that he is motivated solely by "i'm saying it because i can" and is probably motivated by a more shitheady motive like "i think it's funny to annoy people and Rustle Le Jimmies and is just hiding behind the first amendment to try to deflect any consequences or make you realize that being allowed to annoy people is a superior moral right. you can still disdain someone for doing things for dumbarse wankery purposes and you have evne more right to ban and insult them for it" ~Trar's friend about Potato.
Thanks for the diploma… can I have my childhood back?
I’d love to have a battle of wits with you… but I hate to fight the unarmed.
Huh... I found the syncopation really interesting. However, the singing and filters on the instruments grated on my ears so much that I couldn't get through it. Guh... Not fun at all. Will try again at some point, though.
I did listen to the first song Kaiba posted, and enjoyed it a bit more.
Let's get some 80's in here...
And because we're critiquing songs here, may as well put some Kaizers in as well.

Wish I could be bothered looking up this word's definition. :c
First one started off a'ight with the intro even though it was way too long IMO but hated it as soon as the lyrics kicked in. I hate those kind of lyrics. They're so dull. Second one was good for like a second at the start. I will never like Kaizers.
Syncopation is using different rhythms in a piece of music to make the song off beat and unexpected. So, the guitars during the verse are syncopated.
Same thing, I liked it until the singer started. The girl's voice was so airy, and with the synth it sounded like it was from a JRPG. It was annoying.
Any rules on length? I want to post the saddest song I know, but it's almost six minutes long. So, I'll stick with this one for now... Remember to listen to the lyrics. That's what makes this band special.

This is okay. The low voice is a lot easier on the ears, and you can hear the different instruments pretty clearly. It's also pretty melodic as well... But it is loud. And I think it's going for timbre and texture as a whole band, rather than the use of interlocking melodies and harmonies. An approach I'm not fond of, but can't criticize.
So here's that long one. Remember, the lyrics are the meat of it.
And another song, just for the hell of it.

"I've been making a list of the things they don't teach you at school. They don't teach you how to love somebody. They don't teach you how to be famous. They don't teach you how to be rich or how to be poor. They don't teach you how to walk away from someone you don't love any longer. They don't teach you how to know what's going on in someone else's mind. They don't teach you what to say to someone who's dying. They don't teach you anything worth knowing."-Neil Gaimen

First song: We had an extensive talk about this last this, but I now like Emilie Autumn because of this song. Listening to her right now, actually. She's really good. Nothing really else to say, really.
Second song: I found it boring. I prefer classical stuff to be faster, and I found that there was no main melody.
Imma post a symphony. You're only obliged to listen to the first movement (Or to 7:20) but if you want to listen on, please do.
Maybe another short song as well... Okay, let's get into guilty pleasure territory. Watch the video for the best effect.

Is that... Techno metal? Oh God... what twisted mind made that ungodly abomination? Guh.
Okay, let's do some musical numbers now. You should like these...
I was going to post the video because you could see Emilie Autumn in the audience, but there is a topless women in there. I didn't see anything because of the red light, but I wanted to be safe.
And here's one from the same writers, from a different musical, opting for a more punk rock feel. I really like the bass...

I just noticed this thread has five stars... w00t. Thread of the year.
Not techno metal! Industrial techno or "aggrotech" I think it's called.
First one was good, but not good enough that I'd consider listening to it more than once. Second one was awesome, especially how the guy sounded a lot like Jack Black at times. xD Will post some more songs later on tonight...

What the hell... That's shit. Why would someone write and make that. Looking at a review for it... "This is intense stuff that's way too harsh for me and will similarly scare the crap/annoy the hell out of out of most people. I'm not sure I want to like this even; this is music made by and for damaged and sadistic minds." My brain hurts now... And yes, I listened to all of it.
Okay, now for a bit of an EXTRAVAGANZA!!!!
First, some more Mountain Goats. This song is pretty sad as well.
And a couple comedy songs... Tim Minchin and Bo Burnham are pretty good.
And a chant. Because why not.
And some Unkindness... They haven't been signed yet, which is a shame.
Last but not least... MORE KAIZERS! This is a song they only performed live. Well, the recorded it on one album, which is of songs that didn't make the cut on other albums. I like this live one better. (Don't worry, the length is padded by the crowd singing and the credits, as it's the last song in a concert movie.)

I didn't like any of them. I didn't listen to any in full because so many. >.< They're all so slow and meh, maybe I'm not in the mood for slow songs. :>
