RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

I agree.

Homosexuality is normal in my opinion. It has always existed. People should stop arguing whether it's right or wrong. It just exists and there's nothing we can do about it. I don't care if someone's gay, bi, asexual, etc. they're not hurting anyone so what's the problem?

I don't know why but everyone makes such a big deal out of this and it's starting to get really annoying. To be honest, I'm a lesbian myself but I'm getting tired of all this gay rights/gay pride/gay activists shit. I even find it embarrassing. We want people to accept us for who we are, we want people to treat us equally, yet we make such a big deal out of it. It makes us seem like we want special rights, not equal rights. I feel like people get the wrong impression of homosexuality. If we want society to treat us as normal, then we should act normal and stop making a big deal out of it, right? You are who you are. Gays are no different than straight people. Why should people care who you sleep with?

Also, I don't think religion is the only thing that makes people hate/dislike homosexuality. A lot of people think that having sex with the same gender is disgusting.

Gay marriage should be legalized imo, there are lots of people who want to marry each other and I see nothing wrong with it. I don't really care about marriage that much, though. It just seems useless to me.

@crazyguy animal butts? really? so glad I'm not the only one!
jk xD

I couldn't agree with this more.

RE: Homosexuality

I'm bisexual and proud of it, and your points are excellent and I agree with you on everything gamercactus. I don't support homosexuality because I'm half homosexual but because it just is. Before I discovered my bisexuality, I found homosexuality more amusing than abnormal and took it very lightly, than I began to accept it all together. My family accept me and my younger sister are the only anti homophobia people in my home. My grandma dislikes homosexuals because of her religious affiliation and because she sees it as unnatural and a mental illness, my grandfather is more kind but finds homosexuality strange and a bit toxic as he calls homosexuals ''funny.''

Homosexuality

I think the issue with the marriage aspect isn't the social part(unless you're some die-hard bible-thumper) but rather the legal aspect. Taxes, benefits, employer obligations etc.

Marriage is a legal construct. Thus it holds more than a social view.

RE: Homosexuality

I also believe in equal and not special rights, which includes the right to take up space in the way that straight people do constantly.

"Do we treat straight public sex differently than we do gay public sex? Of course. Straight people are so proud of their public sex that they named a cocktail after it."

Perhaps I could shed some light? We still live in a society where straight people are viewed as the norm, and other types of sexuality aren't viewed as normal. (I agree this ought to change.) LGBT (and QIA for that natter) aren't given much media representation to dispel this notion for more isolated LGBT (and QIA) people, either. That may be at least one reason you see 'gay rights/gay pride/gay activists shit' and I can't really blame them for it.

That may be somewhat of an instinctual reaction in some people. The trick is in not letting that reaction get in the way of more reasoned thinking. I'm sure gay people aren't ones for straight sex either.

I'm not one for marriage either, but as long as it's in our society, gays should be able to utilize it.

RE: Homosexuality

I'm for it (obviously, considering I'm bisexual).

"What if Morgan Freeman was Jesus?"
"Well you know what?! I'd... actually, I'd be okay with that."

A person's a person, love is still love. The world isn't going to end if gay people get married.
