RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Homosexuality

NOTE: If you voted on the poll, I'd appreciate if you joined the discussion.

Please do not go all out on this thread. We shall not use caps, bully, or taunt those with opposite views. This is going to be a responsible discussion, and I expect that everybody is serious and doesn't make gay jokes.
What is your view on homosexuality? Is it right? Is it wrong? Should gay marriage be legalized? Are you content with our society's view on gays?

Honestly, I have NOTHING against homosexuality. It's exactly the same as being heterosexual, bisexual, anything-sexual... Humans deserve the right to be able to marry who ever they choose, with no pressure, no arrangements. I think it's perfectly fine, and normal. I hope to see the day where homosexuality isn't questioned and is just accepted, and people do not make jokes or discriminate against gays. Many people believe that gays should not get married because it's against their religion, or doesn't provide benefits to our society as they can't reproduce, which I find outrageous. People should be able to get married to whomever they choose.
Look at this photo. http://apiarymagazine.com/wp-content/upl...00x154.jpg
Just think about it. It's two people kissing. We don't know their gender, race, religion, appearance, social status, or anything. It's just two people kissing. Beautiful.
What are your views?

Most of the time... when you're crying, nobody notices your tears.
Most of the time... when you're worried, nobody feels your pain.
Most of the time... when you're happy, nobody sees your smile.
But when you fart just one time...
Nutter

RE: Homosexuality

I don't see it as right or wrong. It's something that is. We don't call into question whether it's right that a particular person is straight; we seem to do this only when they're some Other. Suddenly there has to be an inquisition into whether it's justified and whatnot. We also get into debates about whether it's a choice, nature, nurture. I don't think it's a choice, but I don't know for sure, or really care. It seems like the question of whether it's a choice is often approached as the one that would definitively decide the whole argument. If it were a choice? It's still none of your business and you have gained no ground.

As for gay marriage, I don't want one myself, at least not right now, but I hope for everyone who does to be able to do that. I think a lot of trouble here comes from people conflating their religion's marriage with civil marriages: "My religion says this is wrong (or so I think); therefore, nobody should be allowed to do it regardless of whether they subscribe to the religion, etc., blah di blah."

but but but the fabriks of muh societuh

As far as I've seen, people are generally tolerant, though I've run into some overt discrimination in small Bible-belt towns. There will always be the vocal minority to make everyone around them look like bigots, but things seem fairly friendly in general (i.e. the world). We just need to get things equalized and then maybe people will stop making such a big issue of it all.

Vonuvov you brought up excellent points, and I'll bring up two others:

1) If Your sexuality is a choice you have to choose to be straight, meaning you had to think about being gay at some point.

2) The only arguments against gay-marriage I've seen is religious, and might I add that there is to be a seperation of church and state within the US, and that all of the reasons that are religious are immediately invalid when it comes to laws. Although people overlook this and this is only theoretical.

Pretty Much my only signature...I'm mainly a lurker....you can find me on the IRC (or on DnE and their IRC).

This is one of those issues where I don't care, and don't want to care. Marriage is entirely the business of the two (or more) within that union, not mine.

Haha.

RE: Homosexuality

Homosexuality is acceptable in my eyes and I'm getting tired of the whole ''it's not right because the bible said so thing.'' There is little to no evidence that this book is completely true. Do you mean asexual by not having sexual feelings for others? I consider myself wondering if I'm asexual, there is nothing wrong with no sexual preference, it's offensive to believe people need sex cause sex is not everything.

RE: Homosexuality

The human race is a pile of specks on a slightly larger speck. Hardly "everything."

Hello, traveler.

This is an ancient account I have not used in a long time. My views have changed much in the intervening months and years.

Nonetheless, I refuse to clean it up. Pretending that I've held my current views since the beginning of time is what we in the industry call a lie. Asking people to do so contributes to moralistic self-loathing. "See, those people have nothing damning! I do! I'm truly vile!"

Because you can never be a good person with a single blemish on the moral record, I thought that simply entertaining some thoughts made me irredeemable. Though I don't care for his writing style, William Faulkner presents a good counterexample. He went from being a typical Southern racist to supporting the civil rights movement. These days we'd yell at him for that, probably.

People are allowed to change their views.

Nevertheless, this period of my life has informed some of how I am today. In good ways and bad ways. To purge it would be to do a disservice to history. Perhaps it will not make anyone sympathetic, but it may help someone understand.

If, after reading all this, you still decide to use the post above as evidence that I am evil today, ask yourself if you have never disagreed with the moral code you now follow. In all likelihood you did, at some point. If some questions are verboten, and the answer is "how dare you ask that," don't expect your ideological opponents to ever change their minds.

Without humans, there will be nothing for humans, thus existing is everything because not existing is nothing.

RE: Homosexuality

Love ( not romance) is everything. Bringing more people into the world will not help solve the world's problems unless you plan on teaching your child to be a loving and peaceful human being. We as a species will slip deeper into darkness and be in danger of extinction if we don't accept being compassionate beings who embrace life, instead many of us are egotists who bring others down, display hatred and show disregard for the well beings of others, if we all learn to embrace and care for one another we won't bring more hell into this world and the earth will become a much better place. The condition of humanity is our first priority that is why I say sex isn't everything (considering that sex is often used as a pleasure not to keep our species going), altruism and spiritual compassion are.

RE: Homosexuality

Asexuals are so boring. Cuz its such a boring word. Smile

The fact sex equates with pleasure is simply a way to maintain the urge to reproduce. Feeling pleasure will finish the job, and feeling horny helps the human figure out how to use the tools. That way you have no chance of losing the way of insuring the existence of the human race because we'll naturally figure out how the whole thing works.

RE: Homosexuality

We should have figured it out a long time and how are asexuals boring? Is it cause they are uninterested in sex? We asexuals are spared from the dangers of sexual relations like STDs and sexual woe, many people have sex because they simply find it pleasurable, there are many people who have children even though they never planned it, like someone I know

I agree.

Homosexuality is normal in my opinion. It has always existed. People should stop arguing whether it's right or wrong. It just exists and there's nothing we can do about it. I don't care if someone's gay, bi, asexual, etc. they're not hurting anyone so what's the problem?

I don't know why but everyone makes such a big deal out of this and it's starting to get really annoying. To be honest, I'm a lesbian myself but I'm getting tired of all this gay rights/gay pride/gay activists shit. I even find it embarrassing. We want people to accept us for who we are, we want people to treat us equally, yet we make such a big deal out of it. It makes us seem like we want special rights, not equal rights. I feel like people get the wrong impression of homosexuality. If we want society to treat us as normal, then we should act normal and stop making a big deal out of it, right? You are who you are. Gays are no different than straight people. Why should people care who you sleep with?

Also, I don't think religion is the only thing that makes people hate/dislike homosexuality. A lot of people think that having sex with the same gender is disgusting.

Gay marriage should be legalized imo, there are lots of people who want to marry each other and I see nothing wrong with it. I don't really care about marriage that much, though. It just seems useless to me.

@crazyguy animal butts? really? so glad I'm not the only one!
