RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

Hansgrohe's Guide to Lucid Dreaming

I thought this would make for a useful thread.

I'm going to guide you through the ways of lucid dreaming. I'm going to tell you this: lucid dreaming is something that's not exactly easy to accomplish. Don't expect to be lucid dreaming within a few days. There are ways to enhance the experience and potentially speed up the process, but the important thing is that it's not instant. Also, I can't say exactly how long this takes. That varies from person, and effort. For me, I say it took roughly 3 months to start getting better at lucid dreaming.

Also, this is just a general guide. There are various techniques and whatnot I'm not going to get into. Look them up yourself, such as the MILD technique, or the WILD technique.

Without further ado, let's get on:

1. Start writing a dream journal
This is the most important step because it allows us to know when we are dreaming, and also figure out patterns in our dreams, and what our dreams might mean. Keep a pen and a journal right next to your bed, and when you wake up, immediately write down the details. You remember your dreams best right after you wake up. In addition, drink a lot of water, too. The fact that you'll have to go to the bathroom at night will allow you to wake up, and write down your dreams.

2. Reality checks
Poke yourself in the center of your hand. Write an "A" which stands for awake in the palm of your hand. There are many reality checks which you can do, but these are probably the most conventional, in my opinion at least. Remember never to say "I'm not dreaming". Instead, say, "When I am dreaming, I will know I am dreaming".

3. If you can, after a reality check, pretend that you are dreaming
Fantasize what your dream might look like. Pretend. Make it as detailed as possible. This is more in dream control than dream lucidness, but it definitely helps.

4. Listen to binaural beats, and specific types of music
Gamma, beta, and alpha waves are the ones that are most associated with lucid dreaming. In addition, I've found the FlyLo FM station which is featured in GTA V to have really increased my dream lucidity and control. If anyone is interested in seeing a link, here it is:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wwr395S1cX4

In general, I'd imagine listening to music can affect and perhaps enhance dream lucidness. IDM, electronica, drum and bass, and trance I imagine would probably have the strongest effect, but feel free to try any genre, and see if it has any effect.

I would strongly suggest to either download the music to your MP3, or download the iTube app (which is a massive MUST when playing music on YouTube).

5. Diet and supplements
Start taking Omega supplements. Fish oil supplements can increase lucidity, though they can't exactly give you full on lucid dreams. Such supplements can also make your dream re-calling skills better.

In addition, there are certain foods which can also increase the lucidity and vividness of your dreams. Chicken, cheese, bananas, rice, and oranges are examples of foods which increase lucidity (I've noticed that my diet contains a lot of these foods, which is no wonder I have such strong dreams). Foods high in tryptophan and melatonin help a lot. In addition, taking Vitamin B6 and 5-HTP supplements can help.

Note: I do not take any responsibility for any possible consequences/side affects from taking supplements.

Happy lucid dreaming!

The last time I tried binural beats, I almost shat myself and the music made me have nightmares about my hand falling off. These nightmares occurred the exactly one year ago when I got to Berlin.

Hansgrohe's Guide to Lucid Dreaming

Yeah. I started listening to subliminal affirmations and binuaral beats when I was in 4th grade. I stopped, but resumed at the end of 5th grade. I stopped again, and I think that I'm going to resume in a few hours.

When you say subliminal affirmations, do you mean like Mind Power?
