RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

Very personal story to share with you all
I have a very personal story to share with you all. This might be a long post, be warned.
I have made a person in my life so much happier. When i had first met her, she was depressed and she cut almost every night. She had tried suicide many times in the past. I was going through the death of my mother at the time and needed some support. We met in school and exchanged numbers. We texted each other every once in a while and i checked up on her every once in a while. Few times she had texted me that she was thinking about suicide. I successfully stopped her all of those times. I texted her stuff like "please don't do this, if i lost you, i don't know what i would do without you." and "you're beautiful, you don't need to do this". I also (sort of) stopped her from cutting. It was on and off. She threw out her blades. but she returned to cutting after her aunt died. But now, shes so much happier. I'm happy that she's happy now.
I just felt like sharing this. Thanks for listening everyone.

RE: Very personal story to share with you all
That's extremely epic. No lie. To save someone from suicide and provide a kind of companionship is extremely awesome. What you did is by far one of the greatest things any person could do.
Also, it wasn't long, either. There have been longer posts. But still, thanks for sharing.

I'm just impressed that you posted this in three places. But yes, this is quite an important thing to share; you've certainly made a positive difference in this person's life. May both of you be happy still, even in the future.

They don't teach you how to know what's going on in someone else's mind. They don't teach you what to say to someone who's dying. They don't teach you anything worth knowing."-Neil Gaimen

RE: Very personal story to share with you all
That's amazing You saved someone's life, completely flipped it around. If it weren't for you, she wouldn't have had the chance to grow up and make a difference.
Most of the time... when you're crying, nobody notices your tears.
Most of the time... when you're worried, nobody feels your pain.
Most of the time... when you're happy, nobody sees your smile.
But when you fart just one time...

RE: Very personal story to share with you all
Good job man. I know where you are coming from and understand you, having helped a significant other through hard times and traumatizing things from the past. It's by no means an easy ride. I always stick by what I said that I would 'never give up' - people who suffer from depression and other related things need someone who believes in them when they don't believe in themselves.
