RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Hidden stuff:
Quote:Alright, so I had an idea on the forums and the users. You see, people here have information that they can teach to others, that others might want(or need) to learn. People could write topics on a subject that they might know a lot about, or know a bit about, and teach others. Also other users who know about that subject can correct, or add, to the lessons.

So, what do you guys think?

This could be a great concept. I wonder though how this'll be implemented.

I could give pretty decent history stuff.

I have some basic outlines for this:
- No Plagiarism
- No Illegal Activities*
- Cite your sources if possible
* Note: Things like Torrenting and something on torrents are okay, something on pirating is not.

RE: An Idea I had

I like this...

Some things I know, off the top of my head.
-Magic: The Gathering
-Various Beatles facts.
-World Religions.
-Some knowledge in drugs (About their effects and what they do to the body and mind, not how to do them.)
-The Holocaust.
-How to solve a Rubik's Cube.

Anything I can do that would interest anyone?

An Idea I had

I know a lot on the topic of drugs, including proper use. Not from experience for the most part but I think I have a pretty solid understanding of it nevertheless.

I also know a little bit about computers I guess, more about hardware than software or coding though.

Those are about the only things I'd be willing to write stuff on.

MIT OpenCourseWare is an excellent resource. I suggest pirating textbooks for them. I pirated a lot of textbooks to get through my undergrad without loans.

I have some medical knowledge as well.

An Idea I had

Would this writing go on the forums directly? I suppose it doesn't matter too much if people post it elsewhere and link it from here?

If I'm gonna write stuff, I'm gonna SEO it and put it on another site to make some $$ as well. Giggle

Not sure what I'd write about though. I don't really like writing all that much. I'm learning guitar... but I'm still a n00b. I can draw, but I don't follow any kind of method, so it's not like I can tell anyone "how".

I know some stuff about Android and rooting and whatnot, so there's that.

Outdated and basic knowledge of PHP/HTML/CSS.

SEO maybe?

How to make moneys from a website perhaps.

Very basic video editing, and how to Photoshop.

Maybe some psychology stuff, although other people are still a huge mystery to me. Actually I wanna learn more about that.

Have you seen MIT Opencourseware, Soulriser? It's an orgasmic place. Just TPB the textbooks.

I can teach a bit about computers (mostly maintenance [software wise] and virus/toolbar removal). I would be happy to.

I am 14, and have my own computer repair business! And I'm a small time DJ also. No joke.

pen-testing?

Edit: Oh penitration testing, well I would put a disclaimer saying you shouldn't do this without prior approval from the website's owner, in a written form(e-mail is preferable), and that you should never do it on a system that isn't yours or you do not have permission on testing.

You see that's a bit grey as it's not exactly illegal, as there are companies who pay people to test their systems, and it could be useful for someone setting up their own system. So I'd do it, just put a disclaimer.
