RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

Reoccurring "Monsters"/Nightmares?

I was wondering what anyone else's reoccurring nightmares are, or if there are any specific entities or monsters that re-appear within them, and what they are like.

From since I can remember, I've had dreams/nightmares of what basically is some kind of entity with completely blood-red eyes and an invisible body that can range in size from an ant to something along the lines of a tall human. When I was younger, it used to terrify the fuck out of me. It is very much like SCP-087 in nature.

I would always know it was present within the dream when lights would start to dim, people suddenly disappeared, lights turn all the way off, radios/electronic systems started fizzing/freaking out or speaking in strange tongues. From what I gathered, it was attempting to speak in a human language to me, but all I could hear was snippets of words among twisted speech and groaning. It would also override a computer program and enter some sort of "DOS" mode, with random characters and symbols appearing on the screen along with screeching noises emitting from the computer itself. This was the worst because when I was a kid, there was many time I'd try to play a game on our then-brand-new Windows 95 system, and the PC would start shrieking as soon as a game's intro loaded, and go into a incomprehensible blue-screen until I shut it down. It didn't help that this seemed to happen only in the early mornings or late evenings before I went to bed.

Anyways, when one of these events happens, the red-eye entity either surges after me or lies dormant somewhere in the dream, usually under a bed, drawer, or some other dark corner or corridor.

If it comes after me, it is usually followed by a siren or a deep horn that radiates from the thing itself, and all I see are the two eyes as they approach at the speed of probably just a little faster than sprinting. The dream usually ends when I'm within a few feet of the entity, at which point it begins to suck me into itself and I feel something grabbing and then enveloping my entire body in numbness before waking up.

If it lies dormant, I have to search for it throughout the dream (which is usually a building) and find it, and coax it out to attack me for some reason. Usually I have to scream as loud as I can to provoke it (which for some reason becomes nearly impossible for me to do), I try to step on it, or if it is larger and is staring at me from beyond a corridor, I have build up the courage to approach it until it lunges at me and attacks, screeching at me.

There have been slight variations on it, one being a black "cloud" that resembled some kind of swarm. It would make an electrical buzzing noise and made my skin tingle and hairs stand on end every time it floated close to me, which would be several time since I'd usually be hiding.

Two nights of sleep-paralysis also involved the entity staring at me outside of my room, down the darkened hallway of my house, and once underneath my covers, in which it felt like it was trying to pull me down into itself until the paralysis passed, both of these happened when I was about 9.

Recently, I hadn't had any dreams involving it, but back when I was 5 to about 11, it was present in more than half of all my dreams, but it eventually got to a point where as soon as I saw it, I was like. "Oh, lol this is a dream, okay, whatever."

RE: Reoccurring "Monsters"/Nightmares?

I use to have the same nightmare when I was younger.
I'd be in the spare bedroom in my grandparents house sleeping. I'd have no idea how I got there, I was almost lucid. It would always be like 3am. But the moonlight shone through the curtains and there was heaps of fog in the room. And then this guy in a mask, holding a machete (like Jason...lol) would just stare at me. Sometimes he'd stab me, gut me, pull out my stomach, or even just stand there.

This dream repeated for months. And re-appeared even some years later.

Now it doesn't happen. I have other nightmares lol
I love nightmares though, some exciting shit.

When I was a young lad, night terrors of a certain sort came frequently. Ones of mimes filled my head, and then I was dead.

Reoccurring "Monsters"/Nightmares?

Interesting.

I think I used to fight these villians that appeared on "the Amanda Show". There'd always be a segment of innocent people on that show being attacked by something wacky (was it hula girls?), and I'd always have fantasies of destroying those wacky people. I actually felt badass doing it.

I also once had this dream I was in some sort of Halo like level (But this was when I was 3 or 4, before Halo was a thing). I was fighting these random monsters. Can't remember what they looked like.

Reoccurring "Monsters"/Nightmares?

Another dream I had when I was little was leading a bad-ass medieval kind of army (a la Duke William II or Joan of Arc) against these evil monster with three heads, each of those heads representing the Canker sisters from Ed Edd N Eddy (I hated the Canker sisters and had fantasies of killing them and the rest of the cul-de-sac), and we won the battle and chopped each of their heads off.

Fuck, these days my dreams are only weird. Back in the day, they were weird and badass at the same time.

RE: Reoccurring "Monsters"/Nightmares?

I have control over everything in my dreams until I think of something horrifying. I had to be the one 'filming' a certain youtube video called obey the walrus, and then that thing came out and the uncanny valley peeled my soul from my body... The first nightmare I had involved the nosferatu holding me in the air and sucking my soul out. I was 2 years old.

Reoccurring "Monsters"/Nightmares?

I don't remember any of my nightmares from when I was a child but sometimes I woke up up because I felt like I was falling or something.

I don't have any nightmares usually. I just have weird dreams.

RE: Reoccurring "Monsters"/Nightmares?

I have several kinds of nightmares involving:

1. I see something and random scary music plays in the backround, usually it is VERY LOUD. I remember a weird one where I was dragged into a scene which involved a chocolate bar cracking in half, followed by a pregnant squirrel eating it, and the dream was repetitive when I was 3-7 years old. It usually signaled a terrifying surreal dream after the scene. Involving a strange creature with big green eyes and a long nose (noses were terrifying to me) shaking me while I urinated into an old toilet (very strange as I said) or a creature that would stand in one place while ominous foghorns and double basses played, and then SLOWLY MOVE TOWARD ME with little to no limb movement. I would also dream when I was sick about disgusting things like people eating a food-creature crying and shrieking for help as they devoured it whole, or a girl who had pale white skin and would force me to eat her (her skin was egg white and she bled poptart jelly). also I would dream of SEVERELY handicapped people having their life support machines removed, resulting in a slow and painful death as I turned away and vomited in disgust. I also had ones where a maggot or other helpless grub was picked up and squeezed dry by some asshole kid. I have the most sadistic mind possible, so I am not going to further describe those dreams.

2. Atmospheric dreams where I was aboard a plane or submarine escaping from something that could have very well been aboard the vehicle the whole time. I would dream of things that would have given multiple kids my age seizures, trust me.

3. Horrifically trippy dreams involving drug trips and highs with strobe lights and melting environments. They get even worse.

ABSOLUTELY TRUE. I have dreams where I fall from an INCREDIBLY high altitude, or go VERY, VERY, UNBELIEVABLY FAST in a lowriding muscle or sports car. and I can feel pain in hospital themed dreams.

I remember I had a really bad dream about North Korea and Spongebob. There was this really loud orchestra music and apparently I was being guided around North Korea by Spongebob. Eventually I got to a picture of the Workers' Party Building and then the orchestra music got really loud, and Spongebob came out of nowhere.

I swear sometimes I have seriously trippy dreams just like you describe, just less graphic. I remember a dream of firefighters putting out cartoon characters who were on fire.

And yeah, that sounds extremely graphic. I don't think I've had such graphic dreams ever.

I've had some dreams that I felt like you , and sometimes I had nightmares that someone was throwing some objects at me and I felt it.
The dreams that we have, come from our imagination, so I think that if I am dreaming with wars and all kind of apocalipse it has something to do with the videogames that I play or even tv series or movies...
Last night I dreamt about some group of people that was fighting for the country were I live and they lived in a island , so they were threatening us with explosives and so on . Sometimes I'm tired of dreaming that kind of dreams

Reoccurring "Monsters"/Nightmares?

I remember my mom bought some Omega tablets and they're said to increase lucidity. Have they worked? Quite a bit. Though I've had extremely lucid and vivid dreams over the past 2 days and that coincided with changing the position of my bed.... not sure if that has anything to do with it though.
