RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

Got my school report thingy

Yeah, I just noticed that "grade sheet" I mentioned a lot is actually called "school report"... not sure if it is still right, correct me if I am wrong, please.

Anyway, today I got this... thing. And first off, what I really loved about myself is how no shit was given about it from my side.

Last semester I was actually shocked about that, but that is only because it was way worse and it was still the time where I believed this school shit.

So from what I can tell, this thing is pretty average. I can tell you which grades I got.

Again, in my country the grades are from 1 to 6, 1 being the best and 6 being the worst.

My grades are:

Ethics = 4
English = 2
German (Grammar n' shit) = 3
Crystal Math = 5
History = 5
Earth, Economy, Society (Yes, that is actually a subject) = 3
Arts = 3
Science (Physics, Chemistry and Bilogy combined) = 4
French = 4
Sports = 4

I do not find this so bad at all, hell, nothing about it remotely ruined my day at all, which really says a lot because I really dreaded this day, but I think the no-give-shit part of my brain was victorious or something.

The best part was when I showed this thing to my mother. She was not angry at all at me, nor was she really shocked. Well, yeah, a little bit of "oh man..." was in it, but nothing bad came from it... especially given the last semester was just... fucking traumatic.
Ok... that was not directly the best part, the best part was when I again started explaining that there is nothing that is not possible n' shit, and when I asked her what she remembered from her school, and she answered: "Absolutely nothing", and then I asked what she actually learned that was relevant, and she answered: "Just from my experience", and THEN she was all like "You know what? I think [Insert my name here]'s logic actually makes sense" while talking to my brother... who was not really proud of his grades... even though they were a lot better than mine... interdasting.

Yeah, I think she will come to her senses and actually comprehend what shit I am trying to tell.

Yeah, me day is actually fine.

But on a different note: Two days before we got our grades we also got our third maths exam/test/bloody syringe back, and see there, another freaking 5 I got... well, actually between 4 and 5. Funnily, for the same stinkin' reasons: Forgetting the littlest shittlest details like commas, answer sentences, calculating the mass of the sun n' shit... but really now, I gave no stinkin' shit.

And funnily, when I calculated my complete grade with my half-semester grades altogether, I would actually graduate. Like, if those were the grades I got at the very end, I would have successfully saved my soul from this ass-syringe... and I am really sure it will happen.

Yeps, I have a good mood for now.

Yeah, that's the kind of scene that sometimes is possible. Great to see an example!

And it's not just your logic... there are many others to back up this kind of thinking.

By the way, have you seen this video?

The question is then... what are the actual alternatives. But having family to is open to hearing more about the need to do education differently is a great start.

RE: Got my school report thingy

Yes, I have seen that video. In fact, I have this guy on my "Other Channels" list. You know, that list in one's own channel where one can put his favorite recommended channels in?

I have watched almost all of his videos, and I will say from the bottom of my heart: This guy is the Morgan Freeman of our youth.
